Chapter 78 - The Police Chase End

Kaito, Bomb, and Alya continued walking through Roma Village.

The streets were still crowded with tourists and villagers.

Kaito occasionally glanced behind them to make sure no police were following.

After a few minutes, he spotted a small shop at the corner of the village.

Various accessories hung outside.

Shell necklaces.

Bracelets.

Small carved figures.

Kaito pointed at it.

"How about we stay there?"

Bomb nodded.

"Good plan."

Alya agreed and followed them inside.

A bell rang above the door.

Ring.

An older man looked up from behind the counter.

He appeared to be around forty-five years old.

A friendly smile immediately appeared on his face.

"Oh, hello there."

"What can I help you with?"

Kaito walked up to the counter.

"We want to rest here for a while."

The seller nodded.

"Sure."

He pointed toward a door behind the shop.

"There's a rest room at the back."

"Feel free to use it."

Kaito nodded.

"Thanks."

The three headed through the door.

The room behind the shop was surprisingly spacious.

Shelves lined the walls.

Various accessories filled the room.

Old decorations.

Boxes.

Tools.

And all sorts of unusual items collected over the years.

Bomb immediately sat down on the floor.

Alya followed.

Kaito leaned against the wall and exhaled.

"Okay."

"We rest here for a while."

Bomb crossed his arms.

"Hopefully Captain Saito isn't causing too much trouble."

Kaito looked toward the window.

Knowing Saito—

that was probably already impossible.

Meanwhile—

Saito continued running through the streets of Roma Village.

People quickly moved aside as he rushed past.

He turned into another road.

Then another.

Finally—

he looked behind him.

No police.

No Captain Norway.

No shouting.

Saito stopped and bent slightly forward.

"Phew."

"I think they stopped following me."

He turned around.

And immediately froze.

A group of police officers stood in front of him.

Another group blocked the road behind.

And even more officers emerged from nearby streets.

Saito stared at them.

"...Oh, you've gotta be kidding me."

One officer stepped forward.

"Surrender, Blue Scarf Saito."

"There's nowhere left to go."

The officers slowly closed in.

Weapons ready.

Saito backed away.

One step.

Then another.

Trying to find an opening.

Nothing.

Every exit was blocked.

Then—

THUD!

Something landed beside him.

The officers jumped in surprise.

Saito looked over.

And grinned.

"Rin!"

Rin casually stood up and brushed dust off his clothes.

"Told you."

"I knew you'd need a hand."

The officers immediately pointed their weapons at him.

"Rin the Death!"

"Watch out!"

Rin smirked.

"Nice to know I'm famous."

Before anyone could react—

he grabbed Saito by the arm.

"Let's go."

"What—"

Rin didn't wait.

He immediately rushed toward a nearby building.

Jumped.

Grabbed a pipe.

And began climbing.

Fast.

Very fast.

The officers looked up.

"SHOOT THEM!"

Gunfire erupted.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Bullets struck the wall.

The pipe.

The rooftop edge.

But missed their targets.

A few seconds later—

Rin pulled himself onto the rooftop.

Then helped Saito up.

The two immediately started running across the roofs.

Below them—

the police continued shouting.

Rin laughed.

"This city really doesn't like you."

Saito groaned.

"Tell me about it."

They leaped over a gap between buildings.

Then Rin glanced at him.

"So."

"Where are we heading?"

Saito looked across the village.

Thinking.

Then nodded.

"We need to regroup first."

Rin grinned.

"Now that's a plan I can follow."

The two continued across the rooftops—

while the police searched the streets below.

The two continued moving across the rooftops.

Carefully avoiding the main roads.

After a few minutes—

Rin crouched near the edge of a roof and looked down.

He scanned the surrounding streets.

Then nodded.

"Okay."

"There are no police nearby."

Saito looked down as well.

The roads seemed clear.

"Good."

The two jumped from the rooftop.

Landing in a narrow alley.

Then casually began walking through the village.

Trying their best to look normal.

A few moments later—

Saito spotted a familiar face.

A window opened slightly.

Kaito was standing inside.

Waving at them.

Saito immediately pointed.

"There they are."

Rin looked over and grinned.

"Nice."

The two quickly headed toward the building.

Entering through the front door.

The bell above the entrance rang softly.

Just as they stepped inside—

a group of police officers walked past outside.

Saito peeked through the window.

Then immediately stepped back.

"Phew."

"Close call."

Kaito walked over.

"You all good?"

Saito nodded.

"More or less."

Rin stretched his arms.

"I'm having fun."

"Of course you are."

Kaito replied.

The group headed back into the rest room.

Everyone sat down again.

For a moment—

nobody spoke.

Then Saito sighed.

"Well."

"This is bad."

Bomb nodded.

"Maybe we need to head to Jaha Town fast."

Alya looked at him.

"But how?"

"The police are everywhere."

Saito thought for a moment.

Then leaned against the wall.

"We stay here tonight."

Everyone looked at him.

Saito nodded.

"At morning."

"We head out."

The others exchanged glances.

Then slowly nodded.

For now—

laying low was their best option.

The group was still discussing their plan when the door to the rest room opened.

The seller stepped inside with a friendly smile.

"Hello there."

"I hope you're satisfied with our convenience."

Saito nodded.

"We are."

Then he looked around thoughtfully.

"By the way..."

"Do you have any clothes for sale?"

The seller tilted his head.

"What kind?"

Saito rubbed his chin.

"Maybe a cloak or something."

The seller smiled.

"A cloak?"

"I think I have something."

He disappeared into a storage room.

A few moments later—

he returned carrying several folded bundles of cloth.

He placed them on a table.

"There."

"Five pairs."

The group looked at them.

Some were red.

Others were black.

Simple.

Comfortable.

Perfect for hiding their identities.

Saito immediately nodded.

"We'll take them."

The seller smiled.

"Excellent choice."

Saito pulled out a sack of coins and handed it over.

The seller accepted it gratefully.

"Thank you, sir."

Then he handed the cloaks to Saito.

Saito distributed them around the room.

One for Kaito.

One for Bomb.

One for Rin.

One for Alya.

And one for himself.

He looked at the group.

"Okay, guys."

"We wear these tomorrow."

Everyone nodded.

Alya folded hers neatly.

Bomb inspected the fabric.

Kaito draped his over one shoulder.

Rin immediately put his on.

"How do I look?"

Saito looked at him.

"Suspicious."

Bomb nodded.

"Very suspicious."

Rin sighed.

"You're all jealous."

The room filled with light laughter.

For the first time since the police chase began—

the group could finally relax and prepare for tomorrow's journey to Jaha Town.

While the Blue Scarf crew rested inside the shop—

far away in Jaha Town.

Night had already fallen.

The capital village of Roma City remained lively despite the late hour.

Inside a bar near the town center—

a man wearing a black cloak walked through the door.

His face remained hidden beneath the hood.

He approached the counter and sat down.

"A cup of beer, please."

The bartender nodded.

"Coming right up, sir."

He disappeared into the kitchen.

The cloaked man rested his elbow on the counter and looked around.

His gaze eventually landed on a poster hanging on the wall.

A wanted poster.

Blue Scarf Saito.

The man stared at it for a few seconds.

Then smiled.

A strange metallic sound came from beneath his cloak.

Clink. Clink.

Mechanical tentacles slowly emerged from his back before curling behind his chair.

Hidden from the other customers.

The man's smile widened.

"So you're here..."

"Blue Scarf."

The bartender returned with the drink.

"Your beer, sir."

The man nodded.

"Thank you."

He picked up the mug and took a slow sip.

His eyes never left Saito's poster.

Outside—

the lights of Jaha Town flickered in the night.

And somewhere beneath the cloak—

the mechanical tentacles twitched.
