Chapter 21 - The Smile That Broke His Control

Logan stared at Evelyn, momentarily falling into a daze.

Her long, silky black hair cascaded past her shoulders, her silvery eyes carrying a hint of charm that could stop any man dead in his tracks.

Having not seen her for more than three days, Logan noticed that she had become even more beautiful.

"Let's talk for a bit."

"Okay," I nodded half-dazedly as she led me towards her room.

Before long, we arrived. I stared at her, waiting for her to speak.

"Thank you." After the silence stretched between us, growing slightly awkward, she finally spoke up.

My expression remained calmer than I expected as I replied, "it's nothing. I promised I was going to do it."

"I owe you my life."

Logan stared at her blankly, not expecting her to say such words.

He noticed the faint blush creeping across her fair, tender cheeks.

"You are now an origin warrior right? What rank are you? I can sense the vibrant origin energy in your body."

'It seems…' Logan muttered to himself, something settling quietly into place.

A relieved smile appeared on his face.

Seeing the smile, the elegant Evelyn was slightly dazed.

He was still as handsome as ever. An image of their interaction surfaced subconsciously, but she quickly forced it to the back of her mind.

"I'm presently at the origin initiate realm," Logan felt no need to lie to her, so he simply said the truth.

"And your origin path?"

"I awakened Space affinity."

The shock on Evelyn's face couldn't be hidden. She stared at him, her expression shifting.

"Space affinity?"

Despite everything she had experienced throughout her life, all the people she had encountered, she had only ever met a single person who possessed the space affinity.

"That's surprising." Evelyn didn't try to hide it.

Finally, she paused, then said what was on her mind.

"Are you interested in enrolling at the origin Academy?"

Normally, Logan would have rejected the offer. However, he knew that to obtain the Space origin technique, he had to attend the academy briefly.

'After attending the academy for a few weeks, and successfully stealing the S-rank Space technique, I could probably go to 'that' place.' Logan thought everything through and nodded.

"I have a slot I can use to enroll you." She said with a smile.

Shifting ever so slightly, she lingered, then said:

"I noticed you training your physique. Although it'll be useful, you should focus more on training your origin path."

"How about you train me?"

Although Evelyn's awakened origin ability was related to lightning, space and lightning were connected in the way they could aid one's speed.

Besides, having her train him could deepen their relationship somewhat.

Evelyn lingered for a moment, then finally spoke up.

"Alright. I haven't tried teaching one before, so I don't know if my teachings would be understandable."

"It will." Logan said, his smile reappearing once more, causing Evelyn to be taken aback.

She cleared her throat.

She couldn't possibly be falling for this boy. It was impossible… or at least she'd like to think so.

"Do you have a weapon?" she asked. "Have you chosen one already?"

Logan recalled he had received an SSS-rank sword from the system which he hadn't checked until now.

Nodding, he stepped back slightly, then stretched out his hand and summoned the sword.

*Shing!*

Instantly, a hum filled the air, and a slender, long blade that seemed almost like a katana materialised in Logan's grasp.

"That—" Evelyn was shocked to her core as she stared at it.

The sword had a green hilt with slight stripes lining its exterior. It radiated a faint vibration, a low tension that vaguely seemed to want to twist the space around it.

"What kind of sword is that?" Although Evelyn tried to maintain her composure, something about the blade unsettled her.

Logan gently stroked the flat of it. "It's one of a high grade." He kept his voice modest.

Evelyn recovered from her shock and gave Logan a deep look.

He was still as mysterious as the first day the two had encountered each other.

"Keep it away for now. We'll focus on learning hand to hand combat techniques. After that we'll move to using weapons."

Logan nodded and returned the sword to the system space.

It hummed and vibrated in protest, almost as though it had a consciousness of its own. Logan just shrugged and placed it away regardless.

"Although one's origin energy should mainly be used together with their origin skills and techniques, there are still rare instances where one must use their physical body to fight."

Evelyn began explaining, her hands moving with slow, deliberate gestures.

"You can also slightly circulate your origin energy to deal a greater amount of force. However, using this technique can cause adverse effects, so you should use it minimally."

This was something Logan already knew.

He had specifically designed origin gates that restricted one's origin abilities and techniques, forcing challengers to overcome trials using their physical bodies alone.

So he knew there was truth in Evelyn's words.

'She's a pretty good teacher…' Logan muttered to himself.

Meanwhile, Evelyn circulated her origin energy and punched outward. The air shivered. Space rippled in the wake of her fist.

She began displaying a set of fist movements.

At first her motions were a blur. Clearly, she wasn't accustomed to holding back.

Gradually, however, her movements became fluid, slow and precise.

Logan could now follow.

After she finished, she paused.

"Can you replicate what I'd just shown you?" she said smoothly, straightening her posture in a way that highlighted her mature curves.

"I can try to." Logan stepped forward.

He recalled how Evelyn had moved.

Although he had written the book, he hadn't visualised these techniques firsthand. It was one of the quiet flaws that came with being an otherworlder inside his own novel.

With precise movements, he thrust a fist forward, then transitioned to a jab, an underhook, and continued on.

Evelyn watched in quiet amazement.

There were still flaws in his movements. But to replicate what she had just displayed so cleanly was still impressive.

When Logan finished, she gave him a warm smile that showed the faint dimples in her cheeks.

The sight of it made something shift in Logan's chest.

For a moment, his heart raced with emotions he couldn't name.

In that manner, the two began their training session.

And in the blink of an eye, four days passed.

On this day… Something… happened.
