Chapter 6 - chapter 7

News doesn't knock.

It slips through cracks, travels through whispers, and by the time it reaches its destination, it has already grown teeth.

Mia Michaelson didn't know the exact moment the school found out.

But she felt it.

The shift.

The stares.

The silence that followed her like a shadow that refused to leave.

It started subtly.

A glance that lasted too long.

A conversation that stopped when she walked past.

Two girls whispering near the lecture hall, their eyes flicking toward her before quickly looking away.

Mia kept her head down.

Always.

Her steps became quieter.

Her presence smaller.

But no matter how much she tried to shrink

the weight she carried refused to be hidden.

Khloe noticed first.

"Something is off," she muttered as they walked across campus together.

Mia didn't respond.

She already knew.

"Why is everyone looking at you like that?" Khloe added, her tone sharpening.

Mia swallowed. "Maybe you're imagining it."

"I'm not," Khloe said firmly. "I know what I'm seeing."

They passed a group of students.

One of them whispered, not quietly enough

"That's her."

Mia's chest tightened instantly.

Khloe stopped walking.

"Say that again?" she snapped, turning toward them.

The girls quickly looked away, pretending nothing happened.

Khloe scoffed. "Useless people."

But Mia gently pulled her arm. "Let's go."

Because she knew.

Deep down

it had already started.

By noon, the rumor wasn't a rumor anymore.

It was fact.

Distorted, exaggerated, but alive.

Mia is pregnant.

She slept with someone at the club.

The guy has run away.

Mia Michaelson, the quiet one?

Wow.

The words spread faster than she could breathe.

In the administrative office, the atmosphere was different.

Serious.

Controlled.

But beneath it—judgment lingered.

Assistant HOD adjusted her glasses, looking over the file in front of her.

"Are you sure about this information?" she asked.

Another staff member nodded. "Yes. It's been confirmed. She was taken to the hospital, and the report came back."

A pause.

Then a sigh.

"I didn't expect this from her, I've always seen her as a responsible girl

Mia's life became a problem to be managed.

She was called in that afternoon.

Khloe insisted on going with her.

They sat side by side in front of the disciplinary panel.

Mia's hands rested in her lap, trembling slightly.

Khloe's posture, on the other hand, was defensive—ready for a fight.

One of the staff members spoke.

"Mia Michaelson," she began, voice calm but firm. "We've received information regarding your condition."

Mia didn't respond.

"What we need from you is confirmation," the woman continued. "Are you pregnant?"

The room felt like it shrank.

Mia's throat tightened.

Slowly

she nodded.

"Yes."

Khloe clenched her jaw beside her.

Silence followed.

Heavy.

Judging.

Then another voice spoke.

"Do you understand that you have to go home and take care of yourself and your child ? You are a student of this institution."

Mia's voice came out soft. "Yes."

"Who is responsible?" the first woman asked.

Khloe immediately cut in. "Why does that matter?"

"It matters," the woman replied sharply. "This is a serious situation."

Khloe leaned forward slightly. "And she's already going through enough. You don't need to interrogate her like a criminal."

Mia touched Khloe's arm lightly. "It's okay…"

But it wasn't.

Nothing about this was okay.

Outside the office, Khloe exploded.

"This school is mad!" she snapped. "Instead of supporting you, they're asking about the father'."

Mia leaned against the wall, drained.

"I don't see anything bad ," she said quietly.

Khloe turned to her sharply. "Don't start ."

"It's true," Mia continued. "I've caused a problem."

Khloe shook her head in disbelief. "No.

You're going through something. That's different."

Mia didn't argue.

Because right now

she didn't even know how to defend herself.

David was nowhere to be found.

His phone was off.

His not in his hostel room .

Even Raymond hadn't seen him since that day at the hospital.

"He just disappeared," Raymond told Emmanuel quietly. "Like he knew this was coming."

Emmanuel didn't respond.

Because part of him feared that was exactly what happened.

That evening, something worse happened.

The school called Mia's parents.

Mrs. Michaelson was in the kitchen when her phone rang.

She almost didn't pick it.

But something made her pause.

Then answer.

"Hello?"

"Good evening, ma. This is from your daughter's school."

Her grip tightened slightly.

"Yes… is everything okay?"

A pause on the other end.

Then the words came, careful but heavy.

"We need to inform you about a situation concerning your daughter, Mia."

Mrs. Michaelson's heart dropped instantly.

"What situation?"

Another pause.

And then

"Your daughter is pregnant."

Silence.

Complete.

Total.

Like the world itself had stopped moving.

"That's not possible," she said immediately, her voice barely steady. "You must have made a mistake."

"I'm afraid not, ma. It has been medically confirmed."

Mrs. Michaelson felt her knees weaken.

She held onto the counter for support.

"No… no, my daughter wouldn't, she's not"

But the words failed her.

Because deep down

a mother always knows when something is wrong.

And all those missed calls…

All those strange responses…

It all started making sense in the worst possible way.

"Mia Michaelson," she whispered, her voice breaking. "What have you done?"

Back at school, Mia sat quietly on her bed.

Khloe was pacing the room, still angry, still protective.

"They have no right to treat you like that," Khloe said. "No right."

Mia didn't respond.

Her phone lay beside her.

Silent.

But she knew it wouldn't stay that way for long.

Because her mother knew now.

And when that call came

there would be no hiding left.

Outside, the campus continued like nothing had happened.

Students laughed.

Classes went on.

Life moved forward.

But for Mia Michaelson

everything had stopped.

Her name was no longer just her name.

It was a story.

A warning.

A scandal.

And the boy who should have stood beside her…

was gone.

That night, Mia lay awake again.

Her hand resting lightly on her stomach.

The weight was no longer just emotional.

It was real.

Undeniable.

And no matter how much the world whispered about her

no matter how much people judged her

one truth remained.

She was not alone anymore.

And that…

was the part that scared her the most.
