Cherreads

Chapter 105 - Chapter 105: Beneath the Same Sky

The ceremony did not end immediately after the rankings were announced, and as the central arena remained filled with nobles, instructors, and students from every division of the academy, the atmosphere gradually shifted away from formal recognition and toward something broader, conversations spreading across the elevated terraces while noble representatives moved between sections exchanging greetings, proposals, and quiet observations beneath the glowing mana lights surrounding the district.

Kael stepped away from the central platform alongside Cassian and Elaris, the countless eyes that had followed them moments ago now dispersing toward other events unfolding throughout the academy grounds.

Aren immediately approached the moment Kael returned to the upper terrace.

"…So," he said with a grin, "…how does it feel being stared at by half the continent?"

Kael answered calmly.

"…Loud."

Cassian let out a faint laugh beside him.

"That's probably the most accurate description possible."

Elaris stood nearby in composed silence, though unlike before, she no longer carried the same distant separation from the others. Since the tournament final, the way she looked at Kael had changed subtly.

Not superiority.

Interest.

Measured.

Curious.

And Kael noticed that even now, several nobles from the upper terraces continued watching the two of them together carefully.

Lyra glanced toward the surrounding platforms where noble families gathered beneath floating banners marked with different crests.

"…There are more foreign representatives here than usual."

Cassian nodded slightly.

"…The academy expanded invitations this year."

Draven's gaze shifted toward the western terraces.

"…Not only human kingdoms."

That finally drew Kael's attention.

Because for the first time since arriving in the academy, he fully noticed how diverse the gathering actually was once the enormous crowds spread apart enough to observe clearly.

Not everyone present was human.

Near the western upper platform stood a tall figure with silver hair reaching almost to his waist, long pointed ears partially visible beneath layered ceremonial robes embroidered with ancient green patterns.

An elf.

His posture calm.

Elegant.

But the mana surrounding him felt impossibly refined.

Nearby stood several shorter but heavily built individuals with dark bronze skin and glowing rune markings carved across reinforced armor.

Dwarves.

Even from a distance, Kael could feel the density of mana compressed into the weapons hanging at their waists.

Aren blinked slightly as he followed Kael's gaze.

"…Okay… now that I think about it, I've barely actually seen the other races around campus."

Lyra answered quietly.

"…Because most stay within their own districts."

Cassian added.

"…And because first-years rarely interact outside their divisions."

A sudden burst of laughter echoed nearby as another group crossed the upper bridge connecting two terraces, and Kael noticed several students with visible beast-like traits moving together through the crowd.

One had black wolf ears partially hidden beneath dark hair.

Another carried a long silver tail moving lazily behind her while sharp golden eyes scanned the surrounding nobles with obvious boredom.

Beast-humans.

Unlike the composed nobles surrounding them, their movements felt sharper.

More instinctive.

Aren stared openly for a second.

"…Alright, yeah, this place really is bigger than I realized."

Elaris finally spoke beside them, her voice calm.

"The academy was founded as neutral territory centuries ago."

Kael looked toward her.

She continued.

"Human kingdoms needed alliances after the northern wars. The non-human races agreed to cooperation only under shared authority."

Draven nodded slightly.

"…Which became the academy."

Elaris inclined her head once.

"Yes."

Lyra's gaze moved across the terraces again.

"…So every major race sends students here."

Cassian smirked faintly.

"Not just students. Future leaders."

That explanation changed the atmosphere around the gathering immediately.

Because now Kael understood why the academy carried so much influence across the continent.

It wasn't simply powerful.

It was—

Connected.

Every major faction.

Every race.

Every kingdom.

All converged here.

A deep horn suddenly echoed across the central district, interrupting countless conversations as several upper platforms shifted position above the arena.

Aren frowned slightly.

"…What now?"

Cassian looked upward.

"…The introductions."

Almost immediately, several ceremonial announcers stepped onto elevated platforms throughout the arena while mana projections expanded across the sky overhead.

One by one, the major delegations began formally presenting themselves before the academy.

"The Silver Forest Dominion."

The image of a massive ancient forest appeared above the arena as the elven delegation stepped forward gracefully beneath glowing green mana streams.

"The Iron Deep Confederation."

The projection shifted toward enormous underground forge cities while the dwarven representatives moved forward surrounded by rune-lit constructs.

"The Eastern Beast Clans."

A wave of cheers erupted from one section of the terraces as several beast-human representatives appeared beneath banners marked with claw-like silver symbols.

Aren blinked repeatedly while watching the projections.

"…Okay… this is actually incredible."

Kael remained silent.

Observing.

Because beyond the spectacle itself—

There was tension beneath everything.

The races cooperated here.

But not equally.

Not naturally.

There were old rivalries hidden beneath the formal atmosphere.

Old wars.

Old distrust.

And yet despite all of that—

They still gathered together inside the academy.

Because something larger than those conflicts existed now.

Lyra suddenly looked toward one of the upper northern terraces.

"…That's strange."

Kael followed her gaze.

A group had just arrived quietly without formal announcement.

Unlike the others, they wore no visible noble insignias.

Dark silver uniforms.

Minimal decoration.

But their presence immediately changed the atmosphere nearby.

Even several instructors shifted slightly when they appeared.

Draven's eyes narrowed.

"…Imperial observers."

Cassian's casual expression faded slightly.

"…Why are they here already?"

Aren frowned.

"…Who?"

Elaris answered quietly.

"The central empire."

Silence settled briefly.

Because even Kael understood the implication behind those words.

The empire rarely involved itself directly in academy matters unless something significant threatened continental stability.

Which meant—

The distortions had reached that level already.

One of the imperial representatives moved forward slightly then paused, his gaze sweeping calmly across the academy terraces before briefly stopping on Kael.

Not long.

But deliberate.

Aren noticed immediately.

"…Yeah… I definitely don't like that guy."

Cassian exhaled quietly.

"You're not supposed to."

The atmosphere across the academy shifted subtly again as the recognition events continued, but now the gathering no longer felt like a celebration alone.

It felt like observation.

Evaluation.

Every major power of the continent had come to the academy for a reason.

And beneath the formal ceremonies and noble gatherings—

Everyone was waiting to see the same thing.

How serious the coming threat truly was.

Kael looked across the enormous academy district once more.

Humans.

Elves.

Dwarves.

Beast-humans.

Nobles.

Commoners.

Future rulers.

Future monsters.

All gathered beneath the same sky.

And for the first time since entering the academy—

The world itself finally felt real in its full scale.
