Chapter 30 - Chapter 30: Betrayal

Kyle regained consciousness.

He could no longer feel his body.

"Is this what happens after Demon Transformation?"

Kyle tried to open his eyes, but everything remained pitch black.

"Am I going to be trapped here forever?"

Kyle felt lost in his heart.

Just then, a sliver of white light appeared in the darkness.

A screen of light materialized before him.

"Labor Contract: Do you swear upon the honor of a Vampire to become Luke's Sword Spirit from this day forward, to be together in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer? If yes, the contract takes effect. If no, the contract is forcibly enacted."

Kyle was stunned by this sudden development and instinctively spoke.

"These words... what do they mean?"

The light screen: "..."

The light screen flickered, but this time the text was in Japanese.

Inside Luke's room in Sanguinem.

Luke wiped away a cold sweat.

I forgot he's a Japanese Vampire; I instinctively used English... 'Kyle' is logging in remotely.

"Kyle" opened his eyes, sat up, and looked around.

"This place for silencing someone is really remote."

"Kyle" picked up the heart that had been casually discarded nearby and stuffed it back into his body. Flesh and blood grew wildly, and soon his chest was as good as new. The demon markings on his face also faded, but the Demon Transformation within him was now irreversible. The current "Kyle" was a full-fledged demon!

"Kyle" lifted his shirt, revealing eight well-defined abdominal muscles.

"This Kyle guy has been eating well lately, huh? Skeleton soldier turned Captain America."

"Kyle" did a few push-ups, getting used to his new body.

"It's stronger than my own. OK, next up is experiencing some combat. After all, it's only a one-hour trial card."

"Kyle" leaped up, landing on the wall's edge. He twitched his ears, hearing the occasional sound of car explosions and metal clashes not far away.

"Quite lively."

After a few more jumps, "Kyle" found the main force.

Over a dozen Vampires were facing off against forty to fifty humans equipped with Cursed Gear, seemingly at a slight disadvantage.

He checked his status panel.

Body Compatibility: 5%

"Let's fight first and see."

"Kyle" jumped into the crowd.

A loud shout came from among the humans.

"Watch out above! Another Vampire is coming!"

Oh, quick reaction, but not very useful.

"Kyle" landed, pushed off the ground with his right foot, and swiftly arrived before a person holding a dagger. Before the other could react, they felt a warmth on their neck.

"Sorry, couldn't find my weapon. Borrowing this."

"Kyle" snatched the dagger and prepared to charge at the others.

"Hmm?"

The dagger emitted a wisp of Demonic Aura, seemingly resisting "Kyle."

"A mere Hungry Ghost-level Weapon, and you have the nerve to have an attitude?"

With that, the hand "Kyle" used to hold the dagger emitted an even denser Demonic Aura, enveloping the dagger.

Sure enough, the dagger became much more docile.

But this change also allowed the other humans to react. There was no longer an opportunity to kill a few more by surprise.

Although "Kyle" was a bit helpless, he didn't dwell on it too much. After all, he could mess around for an hour; he'd definitely manage to take down a few more.

"Kyle" turned to look at the Vampire side and found all the Vampires looking at him with panic, shock, and wariness in their eyes.

"Kyle" slightly frowned, then seemed to understand something. His brow smoothed, and he tentatively asked.

"Why are you all looking at me like that?"

No Vampire answered him.

"It seems Lord Ferid has briefed you? Right now, I'm quite curious... which side are you on?"

One of the three Upper-ranking Vampires here stepped forward.

"Kyle, we don't know what you're talking about."

"Don't know, or won't admit it?"

The other didn't speak, just stared at "Kyle."

Another Upper-ranking Vampire spoke.

"Hah, why waste words? You guys finish off these humans first. I'll take care of this dog of Krul's. Lord Ferid will have an easier time reporting back."

"Kyle" sneered.

"You're being so blunt. Aren't you afraid I'll just run away and report back to Lord Krul?"

That Vampire said disdainfully.

"Hah, Lest asked the same stupid question before he died. The result was I cut off his legs before he could even run. Hahaha!"

Lest? Who's this extra?

Can't let the act slip yet.

"Kyle"'s smile widened.

"Then give it a try?"

"As you wish! If you want to blame someone, blame yourself and Lest for being short-sighted and unwilling to accept Lord Ferid's recruitment!"

After saying that, this dark blue-haired Vampire charged forward with his sword.

The other Vampires did not step forward. Although they had betrayed Krul and sided with Ferid, their dignity as Vampires made them unwilling to use a many-against-one tactic on a fellow Vampire.

On the human side, there was initial tension at the arrival of another Vampire, now replaced by confusion at seeing the Vampires fighting among themselves.

A Major gave a knowing look to a companion with a gun, signaling to look for an opportunity to ambush.

The Upper-ranking Vampire who had first stepped forward noticed this small action.

Although he didn't take it too seriously, he couldn't just be a spectator; he still had to do something.

"Kill these humans. Help Lord Ferid capture Shinjuku and shut Krul's mouth."

Then he led the charge towards the humans.

The Major noticed the other Vampires' movements and quickly shouted, raising his shield to the front.

"Alert!"

The melee erupted again.

Meanwhile, things were oddly peaceful on "Kyle"'s side.

"Kyle" easily dodged the opponent's successive slashes, moving with leisurely grace.

"Not good enough. I can run whenever I want. I really don't know how Lest fell into your hands. Did your foul mouth stink him to death?"

The opponent's slashes became denser, a faint, barely perceptible flush of anger appearing on his pale cheeks.

"Kyle" continued his trash talk.

"Playing the silent expert? Look at your outfit. Are those pointy shoes meant to be weapons? Fine, I'll call you Blue Enchantress!"

Blue Enchantress could bear it no longer and shouted angrily.

"Do you only know how to dodge, Kyle?!"

"Kyle" remained unmoved.

"Didn't you say I couldn't escape? I was testing your skill. Now I can conclude—is this all you've got?"

Blue Enchantress felt stifled.

"Have the guts to stake the honor of a Vampire and fight me fair and square!"

"Kyle" remained impervious, shaking his head.

"No thanks. I'm not Lest. I'm so scared~"

"Kyle" could roughly guess that Lest was probably another Upper-ranking Vampire who also didn't accept Ferid's olive branch and was taken out by these turncoats.

Blue Enchantress, of course, knew "Kyle" was mocking him. He was already enraged!

Furious, Blue Enchantress threw caution to the wind and activated his Second Form.

"Sword, drink my blood!"

"Kyle" made no attempt to interrupt.

"A year ago, I would have run at the sight of this. But today, I am invincible!"

"Kyle" decided to stop running and prepared to face it head-on.

"Kyle" did not activate his Second Stage. Joking aside, he was currently in a demon body; how could he? Besides, he was still holding a human's Cursed Gear.

"Then let me show you the peak skill of us Eternal Punishment and Soulsborne players!"
