War swept through the land, destroying each country and taking out most governments. It was a
world war, and it was on a scale different from the other wars. Nobody knows how it started, but
by the end of it, everyone felt its impact. It is still felt years after the war, when the world begins
to fix itself. People have tried going back to how life was before the war, but with crime on the run,
nobody feels safe. Will is one of these people affected by this war. He and his mom currently live in
a somewhat good neighborhood. Will is a hero fanatic with posters of hero plasted all over his
walls. He gets up to start a new day, he smiles, gets up brush his teeth take a shower, brush his
dark brown hair, and starts his daily school work. After he is done, he goes downstairs to make
breakfast. As he does, someone comes out of their room. "Hey mom" Will's Mom comes out of her
room she walks into the kitchen slowly and stops in front of him. "Good morning, Will," she says,
walking past him. He looks up at her and grimaces at the prosthetic arm and leg she has now.
When the war broke out, she was caught in an accident, causing her to lose an arm and a leg.
Will kisses her forehead and serves her the breakfast he made. He eats with her as they watch
the news, and as they eat, the news story talks about the crime rate going up and how to make
sure our doors are locked. Will cleans up before leaving. He has been working for a while to help him
and his mom stay afloat. He had to dip into his savings just for her Prosthetic limbs. He reaches a
construction site, checks in, and gets his gloves and helmet on before unloading the new materials.
During his shift, he hears people talking about their live saying how they been having to get two
jobs just to stay housed and how the gunfights outside are getting more violent. Will finishes up
with a truck, and then he hears something crashing down from afar. Will looks in that direction
and finds a guy pinned down with concrete. Will rushes over with others doing the same. They just
look down, looking a little lost at what to do."What are you guys doing!?" Will yells before running
over and grabbing a side of the concrete. The others rush to help to try to lift it off, but the
concrete's metal frame has bent, so it's hard to pick up. They continue to lift, but it seems like they
won't be able to lift it. Tears appear at the corners of Will's eyes as he lifts with all his might. He
thinks about one of his many posters in his room about the hero on it, Great Heart, and his super
strength. He thinks about how if he just had his power, he would be able to lift this, just as he
thinks that something clicks inside of Will's head. When everyone was going to give up on lifting the
concrete, it suddenly moves up, they continued to pull it up enough to move the guy out of the way
before the frame fell back. Will drops to his knees in shock as he looks at his hands. The crowd cheers before the paramedics come and take the injured guy. Will stands up and feels light as he feels his arm, they feel like steel wires compared to when he last checked them. The site manager
tells everyone to go home early. Will hears that and packs up and goes before going home, he goes
into a nearby forest. He looks at a random tree he feels it; it's moist. He pulls his fist back as if to
punch, but stops. What if that was a fluke? What if I'm crazy? He looks at the tree. " I guess
there's only one way to find out." He strikes the tree, his arm digging into it. He looks at it and
grins from ear to ear, he rushes home. He remembers his powers, so he slowly opens the door. He
looks inside and sees his mom still sitting on the couch as if she were a statue. He walks in and sits
next to her; she leans on his shoulder and cries. Will lets her cry as he pats her shoulder. An hour
later, after dinner, he takes her to bed and gives her some painkillers before going to his room. Will
sits on his bed and relaxes before he grabs a bat from his closet. Slowly, he wraps his fingers
around the base, slowly tightening his grip, then it crushes in his hand. He smiles and goes to sleep
happy.
