Chapter 35 - Episode 16: “The Experiment Begins Again”

The lab lights stabilized… but it didn't feel safe.

It felt awake.

Like the place had been waiting for them.

Aanya stood close to Rudra, her voice barely a whisper.

"Tell me we are getting out of here…"

Rudra didn't answer immediately.

His eyes were locked on the central chamber.

The glass pod.

The chair inside.

Finally, he said,

"We can't leave yet."

Aanya turned sharply.

"What?! Why?!"

Rudra's jaw tightened.

"Because the system is already running."

A pause.

"And if we leave now… it spreads."

Aanya froze.

"What spreads?"

Rudra looked at her.

His voice dropped lower.

"Me."

Silence hit instantly.

Aanya stepped back.

"You're saying this place can… copy you?"

Rudra nodded once.

"Yes."

A pause.

"It already did once."

Suddenly—

the lab speakers clicked ON.

Armaan's voice returned.

Calm. Controlled. Almost satisfied.

"You remember now."

Rudra looked up instantly.

"Stop hiding behind the system."

Armaan replied softly,

"I am not hiding."

A pause.

"I am observing."

Aanya whispered,

"This is insane…"

Then—

the glass chamber opened.

Slowly.

With a deep mechanical sound.

The chair inside lit up.

Blue.

Cold.

A robotic voice echoed:

"SUBJECT REQUIRED: RUDRA RATHORE"

Aanya grabbed Rudra's arm.

"No. Don't go near it!"

Rudra didn't move.

But his expression changed.

Like something inside him was pulling him forward.

Aanya noticed.

"What is happening to you?!"

Rudra whispered,

"It's calling me."

Aanya shook her head.

"Rudra, don't listen to it!"

But Rudra took one step forward.

Then another.

Armaan's voice returned.

"This is where you were perfected."

A pause.

"Let me show her the truth you are hiding from her."

Aanya panicked.

"Rudra stop!"

Rudra suddenly stopped mid-step.

His fists clenched.

He fought it.

Then he spoke.

Struggling.

"No… I am not that anymore."

Silence.

Armaan's voice softened.

"That is what you believe."

A pause.

"But belief is not control."

Suddenly—

the chair activated.

Energy lines spread across the room.

Target lock appeared.

TARGET: RUDRA RATHORE

SECONDARY TARGET: AANYA VERMA

Aanya's eyes widened.

"We're both targets now?!"

Rudra turned sharply.

"Run to the exit!"

Aanya shouted,

"There is no exit!"

Rudra looked around fast.

Then spotted something.

A side control panel.

Old.

Manual override.

He rushed to it.

Armaan spoke again.

"If you shut it down…"

A pause.

"You shut yourself down."

Rudra stopped for a split second.

Aanya saw it.

That hesitation again.

Aanya stepped forward.

"Rudra… don't listen to him."

Rudra looked at her.

And for a moment… everything softened.

Then he whispered,

"I trust you more than I trust my own mind."

He slammed the override button.

BEEEEEP—

Systems started failing.

Lights flickered violently.

Armaan's voice turned sharp for the first time.

"Rudra—STOP!"

Too late.

The chamber exploded in sparks.

The system screamed.

And the voice disappeared.

Silence returned.

Heavy.

Broken.

Aanya looked around.

"Is it… over?"

Rudra didn't answer.

Because he was staring at the chair.

It was empty now.

But the imprint…

was still warm.

Then Rudra whispered something terrifying.

"This wasn't the original system."

Aanya frowned.

"What do you mean?"

Rudra's eyes darkened.

"This was just the backup."

A pause.

"The real one is still running somewhere else."

Silence fell again.

And far away… in the darkness of the city…

a single screen turned ON.

Armaan smiled faintly.

"They are learning."
