Chapter 7 - The Immune System

For three years, Kael had forced himself to walk.

He had learned to move with the excruciating caution of a man carrying a primed explosive, deliberately suppressing his stats so his sheer existence wouldn't crash the game's physics engine.

But as the blaring red sirens echoed through the Vanguard Keep, Kael didn't walk.

He sprinted.

BOOM. BOOM. BOOM.

Every time Kael's basic leather boots struck the marble floor of the city, a localized earthquake erupted. He moved so fast that his avatar visibly blurred, leaving behind a trail of torn polygons and glitched textures. He hit the teleport gate a fraction of a millisecond before the quarantine lockdown sealed it shut.

The transition to Floor 54 was instantaneous.

The air immediately turned foul. This wasn't the sun-dappled serenity of Lumina Meadows. Floor 54 was a sprawling, subterranean nightmare—a massive crystalline cavern where jagged amethyst stalagmites pierced the ground, and the air itself was thick with a corrosive, toxic haze.

In the center of the cavern, Kael found them.

Vanguard Squad 7.

Twenty highly geared players were trapped inside a massive, hemispherical dome of corrupted red glass. It was a Quarantine Trap, a vicious system mechanic designed to isolate and slowly execute players who triggered it.

Inside the dome, the players were drowning.

The air within the construct was thick with a suffocating black miasma. Armored knights were on their knees, clutching their throats.

Mages were desperately casting purification spells that fizzled out against the overwhelming toxicity. Above their heads, their green HP bars were rapidly draining, flashing a desperate, frantic yellow, then a horrifying red.

Among them was a young tank bearing a striking resemblance to Vance. He was hammering his massive tower shield against the red glass, screaming something Kael couldn't hear through the thick barrier.

Kael approached the dome.

The players inside noticed him. For a fleeting second, hope flared in their hollow eyes—until they registered his threadbare starter tunic and empty hands.

Despair washed over them. A Level 1 noob had come to save them. They were going to die here.

Kael didn't waste time trying to find a control panel or a lock. He planted his feet, pulled his right fist back, and struck the dome.

KRA-KOOM.

The impact was cataclysmic. A visible shockwave of compressed air exploded outward from Kael's knuckles, instantly flattening the surrounding crystal trees and blowing the toxic haze away for a hundred yards in every direction.

But the red dome didn't break. It merely rippled, absorbing the kinetic energy like a drop of water in a vast ocean.

A heavy, gold-trimmed system prompt aggressively materialized in front of Kael.

...

[WARNING: Indestructible Object.]

[Admin Access Required to modify or bypass this structure.]

...

Kael stared at the floating text. His expression remained entirely blank.

"Nothing is indestructible," Kael muttered to the empty cavern. "In a coded environment, 'indestructible' just means the defense value is hard-coded to the system's maximum integer limit. It's just a number."

He slowly pulled his fist back a second time.

"I just have to hit it harder than the server can calculate."

Kael closed his eyes and stopped holding back. He let his Level 9999 stats fully engage.

The cavern didn't just shake; it began to tear.

The air around Kael's arm screamed—a literal, high-pitched screech of tearing digital fabric.

The game's audio engine couldn't process the density of the kinetic data pooling into his fist, causing the sound to glitch into deafening static. Colors inverted around him, turning the purple cavern into a negative-hued nightmare.

Kael threw the punch.

CRACK.

It wasn't an explosion. It sounded exactly like a piece of cheap sugar glass being stepped on.

The "admin-level" indestructible dome completely shattered, dissolving into millions of harmless, drifting red pixels.

The trapped players spilled out onto the cavern floor, violently coughing and gasping for the clean air Kael's shockwave had ushered in. Vance's younger brother dropped his shield, staring up in absolute, paralyzing terror at the beginner-gear player who had just manually broken a hard-coded system law.

Kael stepped back, casually brushing a speck of digital dust off his tunic.

"You're safe," Kael said simply.

But Aethelgard did not like being broken.

The moment the dome shattered, the cavern began to violently glitch. The atmospheric ambient track abruptly cut out, replaced by a hollow, terrifying white noise.

The crystalline walls surrounding them began to lose their textures. The intricate, high-definition amethyst dissolved, peeling away to reveal the raw, unrendered geometry beneath—a dizzying void of flat, gray and white checkerboards.

"What's happening?" one of the mages screamed, backing away as the floor beneath them began to lose its color. "The floor is deleting itself!"

"No," Kael said, looking up toward the cavern ceiling. "It's a localized server quarantine."

From the checkerboard void above, a massive entity descended.

It wasn't a monster. It had no face, no roar, no wings, and no health bar.

It was a shifting, abstract cluster of pitch-black, jagged geometric cubes, rotating and grinding against each other in a sickening display of impossible physics. At the very center of the shifting dark mass was a single, intensely glowing white eye.

A new prompt appeared, but it wasn't blue or gold. It was a glaring, terminal black with white text.

...

[ANOMALY DETECTED. SYSTEM LOGIC COMPROMISED.]

[ENGAGING SYSTEM IMMUNE RESPONSE.]

[SPAWNING: EXECUTIONER_PROTOCOL_01]

...

The air grew freezing cold.

Vance's brother scrambled backward, his face completely devoid of blood.

"It's an anti-cheat bot!" the young tank screamed, his voice cracking with pure, unadulterated panic. "Don't look at it! Run! If it touches you, it doesn't just deal damage—it deletes your character data! It's instant permadeath!"

The surviving members of Squad 7 didn't need to be told twice. They scrambled over each other, desperately crawling away from the geometric horror descending from the glitching sky.

But the Executioner didn't aggro onto the nearest player. It didn't care about Squad 7. It didn't care about their levels, their threat generation, or their mana.

The massive, shifting cluster of black cubes slowly rotated.

Its blinding white eye bypassed the fleeing Vanguard members entirely, snapping its gaze downward to lock perfectly, unblinkingly onto Kael.

It recognized the virus. And it had come to purge it.
