Chapter 2 - Healing

Keifer's POV

The rain had finally stopped when we left the hospital. The city felt quiet — just the soft hiss of wet pavement and the faint glow of streetlights reflecting off puddles. Jay sat beside me in the car, bundled up in a worn hoodie and clutching her little Snorlax plushie to her chest. She looked so small, so breakable, but there was that same stubborn spark in her eyes.

"You and that plushie," I teased quietly, brushing my thumb over her knuckles.

"He's my emotional support Snorlax," she murmured, managing a tired grin. "He doesn't talk back."

"Lucky him," I said, and she laughed — soft and scratchy, but real. It was the best sound I'd heard in days.

I helped her inside my house keigan and keiren had gone to their friends house . She leaned into me, the scent of rain still clinging to her hair. "It's huge," she said, looking around, still hugging Snorlax like a shield.

"It's yours for as long as you need it," I told her chuckling as I stared at her wide eyes.

She blinked, like she wasn't sure she'd heard me right. Then she smiled — a lazy, sleepy smile that made my chest ache.

I made her tea, sat beside her, and pulled a blanket over us. For a while, neither of us spoke. The only sound was the quiet rhythm of her breathing, the low hum of the heater. She rested her head on my shoulder, Snorlax squished between us.

"You know," I said after a moment, "he's kind of a third wheel."

"Then be nice to him," she murmured. "He's been with me longer than you."

I laughed and pressed a kiss to the top of her head. "Fair enough."

The laughter faded into a comfortable silence. I could feel her heartbeat through the fabric of her shirt, steady and alive. She tilted her face up to look at me, eyes glassy in the lamplight.

"Thank you," she whispered. "For being here ."

"Always ," I said, meaning every syllable. Then our lips met — gentle, unhurried, like the world had stopped just to give us this moment.

When she finally fell asleep in my arms, Snorlax pressed between us, I couldn't help but smile. Her breathing was even, her hand curled around my shirt. Outside, the rain started again — soft, forgiving.

I whispered into her hair, " I love you Jay until scientists find the end of the universe."
