Akira's POV
Kael left without saying when he would come back.
I noticed this approximately four seconds after the training yard gate closed behind him, which was four seconds longer than I would have liked. I stood in the middle of the yard with the dagger in my hand and I thought about the fact that I was waiting to hear whether he was coming back.
I was not going to do that. I simply put my dagger away and went inside.
The system was waiting for me, which had a habit of timing its deliveries for moments when I was already processing something else. The screen appeared while I was washing the training dust off my hands, arranged in the clean unhurried lines I had come to associate with missions that were going to require more than they said upfront.
