Akira's POV
I found him at the eastern perimeter at six in the morning.
It didn't seem to be a coincidence. I had figured a way to track him using the phone and the link told me where he was and I had gone there directly, which was the most honest use of the link I had made since he gave it to me.
He was running the standard perimeter check with the efficiency he brought to everything routine, the gate monitors logging clean across the eastern zone. He seemed to have noticed my presence because he looked up when I approached with the expression of someone who had already decided what register this conversation was going to be in before it started.
"The shadow guards…" I started. The urge to get the conversation done with alarming.
He kept mum as he looked at me.
"The ones who put themselves between me and five masked figures in a street gap last night and dispersed before I could speak to them," I said. "Are they your people?"
