Kael's POV
Reiss called for my attention at exactly eleven in the morning and his voice carried the exact tone it did when the information was time-sensitive and he had already started moving on it before picking up the phone.
"Renshi's mother…," he started. "She's been admitted to Eastside Medical. Forty minutes ago."
I was already standing, packing up and ready to move.
"What happened?"
"It was reported as a fall," he said. "Kitchen accident, that's what the admission notes say. She was found by a customer who arrived for the early service and the shop wasn't open."
"She's been running that shop for twelve years. She doesn't have kitchen accidents." I stated as a matter of fact. I had been close to them enough to be able to tell most things.
"No," Reiss said. "She doesn't."
I was out the door before he finished the sentence. A sentence I decided to purposefully tune out on my own out of the erratic annoyance bubbling in me.
