Cherreads

Chapter 45 - Chapter 45:You the shy type?

Rain and fire mixed into steam across the ruined street.

SCP-096 screamed again, a sound so raw and unnatural that windows shattered three blocks away. The creature moved with impossible momentum, long limbs slamming against buildings as it accelerated straight toward Devin again.

Only relentless termination.

When the shy guy reaches him,

Devin barely twisted aside in time.

096 hit the motel behind him instead.

Devin snarled...

The entire structure collapsed inward in a thunderous burst of concrete and timber as the creature tore through it without slowing. Splintered beams and debris blasted outward like shrapnel.

Then it was already turning back toward him.

Too fast.

Devin launched himself forward instead of retreating. His pitch black form crossed the distance fast.. His claws raked across 096's torso with enough force to shred armored vehicles.

Skin tore.

Bones were scratched but Devin knew that shy guy didn't care about his current level of attacks..

Its elongated arms wrapped around Devin instantly, fingers digging deep into muscle as it slammed him through the asphalt. The street cratered beneath them.

Devin was running on pure primal survival instincts... He roared, forcing the creature upward with monstrous strength, but 096's grip only tightened.

The creature's jaw split wider in its endless scream as it clawed repeatedly into Devin's shoulders and neck.

Blood sprayed.

Regeneration fought desperately to keep up.

Devin grabbed its skull with both hands and hurled it skyward.

096 vanished upward through rain and smoke

Then came back down like a missile.

The impact flattened an entire intersection.

Shockwaves rolled through the small town, toppling power poles and blowing storefront glass outward.

"Fuck " Devin snarled under his breath "this bastard just keeps coming..

Nearby Treeline

Lira crouched behind fallen logs deep in the forest edge, trembling as she watched flashes of destruction light the night.

She should have been gone by but she couldn't leave Devin behind but that didn't stop her fear...

Every scream from 096 sent ice through her veins.

She had obeyed Devin.

She never looked directly at the creature.

But even avoiding it felt wrong...

She was using her telepathy subtly against the minds fleeing the town, she felt their emotions like I rushing river.. feelings like panic, confusion, terror.

And beneath all of it was, Devin.

Still fighting.

Still alive.

But barely.

Tears streamed down her face.

"Please Devin …" she whispered. "Don't die…"

Back at the Town Center

Devin skidded backward through wrecked vehicles, claws carving trenches into the road to stop his momentum.

096 was already sprinting at him again on all fours, movements jerking and unnatural.

It smashed through obstacles instead of avoiding them.

A police cruiser vanished beneath its body.

A brick wall exploded outward as it bounded off it.

Its focus never shifted.

Only Devin existed to it.

Devin inhaled sharply.

His instincts adapted again.

Stage Five surged.

The air around him distorted subtly as his body began adjusting in real time to the creature's speed and attack rhythm.

The shy bastard lunged again..

Devin vanished sideways before impact.

Ugly Shy face overshot.

Only by inches.

Devin countered immediately, driving both claws into its spine and slamming it face-first through the street.

Concrete erupted.

The bastard convulsed violently

Then it shocks Devin as it bent backward in ways no living thing should, claws whipping behind itself to slash across Devin's abdomen.

He jumped back too late.

The hit tore through flesh, claw slightly tugging at his organs and sent him crashing through a diner.

Tables and walls exploded around him.

Mr shy face, screamed louder and charged straight through the building after him moving at faster speed than before...

This thing didn't care about anything or anyone else.. Only thing running through it's bold head was to attack the wolf creature in front of it.. .

Devin rose from the wreckage breathing hard now.

Healing faster but his muscles twitched from accumulated damage.

His eyes narrowed.

"This thing…" he growled. "It's worse than the files and any video I've seen in my previous life …"

Before he could finish talking to himself..

096 hit him again before he finished speaking.

They burst through the far wall together into the open street as thunder cracked overhead.

Above the town, Foundation containment helicopters finally appeared through the storm clouds.

But none of the personnel aboard dared descend.

Because below them, two Keter-level horrors were tearing an entire town apart

And one of them could not be reasoned with, frightened, delayed, or even stopped and that was some terrifying shit, especially for those watching Devins growth mid battle...

The town burned around them.

Half-collapsed buildings groaned under spreading fires while rain hissed against exposed gas lines and shattered concrete. Emergency sirens echoed uselessly in the distance.

And in the center of the devastation,

Devin staggered backward.

Blood poured from dozens of wounds. Entire chunks of flesh were missing from his shoulders and ribs, causing his internal organs to show . One arm hung partially shredded, regeneration struggling to keep pace.

Across from him, SCP-096 screamed without pause.

Another impact sent Devin skidding through the remains of a grocery store, shelves and support beams collapsing around him. He slammed into a crushed freezer unit and finally stayed down for a moment.

He spits blood...

"Damn... I can't catch a break in this world huh?" He grunts as he tried to steady himself..

He's Breathing was hard and heavy...

His Vision blurring.

He was reaching the limit where death was knocking on the door... .

And deep inside him,

Something else shifted.

His current Stage Five evolution state responded.

Thats when the world slowed around him..

This not a normal shift in perspective rather it's was much larger shift, a Conceptual change within his existence... .

Devin felt it almost immediately.. .

The pattern behind 096's existence.

Its impossible durability.

Its certainty.

The anomalous "rule" that declared it could not be stopped once triggered.

Before, Devin had only fought its body.

Now…

His instincts and body began adapting to the anomaly itself.

His red eyes brightened unnaturally.

The spirit realm flashed briefly behind his thoughts, he knew just by instinct that those wolves were watching silently from the distant plains as if witnessing a brutal trial.

A low growl escaped Devin's throat.

His body rose slowly from the rubble.

Bones cracked back into place.

Muscle regenerated denser than before.. .

His claws grew Sharper and more lethal than simple physical damage weapons.. .

He was now completely Different from the creature that first fought against the shy boldy in front of him...

As if understanding the change, 096 charged again, claws extended and with more aggression

But this time, Devin saw more than movement.

He saw the structure of the thing itself

The way reality bent around it.

The way its anomalous state reinforced itself.

And Stage Five adapted to it all...

096 slammed into him.

The ground exploded.

But Devin caught it.

Both hands wrapped around its elongated arms, stopping the charge outright.

For the first time since arriving

096's momentum was halted.

The creature screamed directly into Devin's face.

Devin snarled back.

Then punched it.

Not just physical force.

Something deeper.

The strike landed,

And 096's body reacted wrong.

Its skull cracked and this time it wasn't regenerating immediately.

A genuine fracture spread across its pale face that didn't seem to want to heal like usual..

For the first time in recorded history,

096 recoiled.

Foundation personnel watching through aerial feeds went silent.

One technician whispered:

"…No fucking way man... That should be God damn Impossible.!!! "

Devin stepped forward through the rain.

Every instinct inside him was adapting faster now, feeding off the pressure of imminent death.

096 lunged wildly again.

Devin intercepted it mid-motion and drove a claw through its chest.

The surrounding air warped violently.

096 screamed louder than before,

But now there was pain in it.

Real pain.

Devin ripped sideways, tearing flesh and bone apart with conceptual force that bypassed the creature's anomalous indestructibility.

The town shook from the backlash.

Helicopter instruments malfunctioned briefly overhead.

Reality anchors in distant Foundation units overloaded trying to interpret the shocking scene they were seeing.

Devin watched as the creature staggered backward.

Its regeneration slowed, it was being hindered by the strange existence of Devins current form

Devin breathed heavily, staring at his blood-covered claws.

"…I can hurt you now and maybe I'll help you by ripping that ugly mug you call a face right off ."

096 answered with another scream and charged again anyway.

Because pain meant nothing to it.

Only the target mattered.

But now…

The impossible creature had met something equally impossible.

And the balance of the battle began to shift.
