The torn page lay on the stone floor.
Only one Keeper may remain.
No one reached for it.
No one even breathed.
The words felt older than the archive itself.
Elysia bent down and carefully picked up the page.
"It came from the Chronicle of Origins."
Zayden looked at her.
"So it's true?"
She nodded.
"It is."
The Keeper remained silent.
Aria turned to him.
"Why didn't you tell us?"
He looked at the endless shelves before answering.
"Because I wanted you to judge the Null King by his actions."
A pause.
"Not by our past."
Elysia sighed.
"He's still trying to protect everyone."
The Keeper gave a tired smile.
"Old habits."
Zayden stepped closer.
"So tell us."
"Everything."
The Keeper closed his eyes.
"When the Layers were first created..."
"There were two Keepers."
"My brother and I."
"He was called Caelum."
"The one you now know as the Null King."
A ripple passed through the archive.
Ancient memories awakened.
The walls lit up with silver light.
Scenes from the distant past appeared.
Two young men stood side by side before an endless sea of stars.
One wore a white cloak.
The other, a black one.
Both smiled.
Both believed they could protect every world.
"They loved the Layers equally," Elysia whispered.
"But differently."
The memory shifted.
A dying world appeared.
Its sky was cracked.
Its oceans had vanished.
Children cried in empty streets.
The younger Keeper stepped forward.
"We can still save them."
The elder shook his head.
"If we interfere now..."
"The balance of every Layer will collapse."
The younger refused to leave.
He poured his own power into the dying world.
For a moment...
The skies cleared.
Flowers bloomed.
People laughed.
Then...
The Layer shattered.
Not because he tried to save it.
Because he saved it too late.
The entire world collapsed into light.
The memory faded.
Silence filled the archive.
The Keeper spoke quietly.
"That was the first Layer we ever lost."
Aria whispered,
"So that's when everything changed."
The Keeper nodded.
"My brother blamed himself."
A pause.
"He decided no world should ever reach that point again."
"He searched for a way to stop suffering before it began."
Zayden looked toward the glowing memories.
"And you?"
"I believed every world deserved the freedom to choose."
Another pause.
"We argued."
The memory changed once more.
The two brothers stood on opposite sides of the endless bridge connecting the Layers.
One reached out.
The other stepped back.
No swords.
No battle.
Just silence.
Then...
The bridge broke.
The brothers never saw each other again.
The vision disappeared.
Elysia looked at Zayden.
"Neither of them was born a villain."
"They simply made different choices."
Zayden lowered his gaze.
"So the Null King..."
"...still thinks he's saving everyone."
"Yes."
The Keeper answered without hesitation.
"He truly believes erasing worlds is an act of mercy."
A deep tremor shook the archive.
Books fell from ancient shelves.
The glowing map flared crimson.
Captain Lyra's voice echoed from above.
"Keeper!"
"The Veil has opened again!"
Everyone rushed out of the archive.
The sky above the Second Layer had changed.
A massive black gate floated among the clouds.
Larger than before.
Far larger.
The Null King's voice echoed across every island.
> "Brother."
The Keeper looked up.
His expression was unreadable.
> "It's time."
The gate slowly opened.
This time...
The Null King himself stepped through.
Not a shadow.
Not a projection.
His true form had finally arrived.
The wind stopped.
The rivers froze.
Even the stars seemed to dim.
The Null King's silver eyes met the Keeper's.
For a long moment...
Neither spoke.
Then the Null King said quietly,
> "You've protected them long enough."
> "Now let me give them peace."
The Keeper took one step forward.
"No."
A faint, almost sorrowful smile appeared beneath the Null King's obsidian mask.
> "Then we finish what began at the edge of eternity."
The sky split apart.
And the oldest conflict in existence was about to begin.
