Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: The Army Man’s Silence

Within a span of only one hour and two days after Martin's children vanished, another missing persons case hit Sam's desk. This time, the victim was not a child, but a grown man who had failed to return from his job at the city's massive IT Park. The man was the son of Ziven, a retired ex-army officer who was known for his discipline and his formidable presence. Ziven lived with his children, including a daughter and the son who had just vanished into the neon-lit industrial maze.

Ziven's son had been working late to finish a project, a common routine for the young man in the high-tech world of 2070. After completing his work, he had checked out of the security gate and headed toward the transit station to return home. He never arrived, and his phone signal had cut out at the exact moment he left the building's Wi-Fi range. He had just vanished, leaving no trace behind in a district that was supposed to be the most monitored area in the city.

Ziven arrived at the precinct not with tears, but with a cold, military focus that unsettled the younger officers. He demanded to speak with Sam Nicholas, his eyes burning with a fire that suggested he was already planning his own counter-strike. He told Sam that his son was a man of character who would never disappear on his own accord. Ziven's presence brought an air of combat and urgency to the investigation, reminding Sam that they were dealing with families of warriors.

Sam felt the walls closing in as he looked at the growing map of disappearances across the city. The speed at which these families were being dismantled was breathtaking, and the police were always two steps behind the shadow. He saw the connection between the victims—a grandfather, a teacher, and an army man—but the logic of the crimes remained a mystery. He knew that the killer was following a list, and Ziven was the latest name to be crossed off in blood.

Patel investigated the IT Park's security logs, finding that the digital signatures had been tampered with at the time of the disappearance. A localized blackout had occurred for exactly sixty seconds, just enough time for someone to be taken without being caught on camera. This confirmed that the perpetrator had a high level of technical skill or an ability to manipulate the environment itself. Patel shared his findings with Sam, and the two men realized the "ghost" was becoming more aggressive with every strike.

The precinct was now a war room, with Sam and Patel at the center of a storm they couldn't control. The disappearance of Ziven's son was the final straw for Sam's traditional detective logic; he knew he had to think outside the box. He looked at the names again: George, Arnold, Martin, and Ziven. He remembered the successful book published by the Void Kids and the legends that the 2K generation worshipped. A terrifying theory began to form in his mind as he looked at Patel.
