Chapter 3 - The wish

A thunderous swirl of starlit smoke erupts around you and Mira. The ground trembles gently as reality itself rewrites. From the empty clearing rises a colossal mountain of enchanted provisions: golden wheat fields that shimmer and regrow instantly, towers of never-spoiling fruits and meats stacked higher than the trees, barrels of crystal-clear water that refills itself, and crates of spices, breads, and preserved delicacies stretching into the distance. Every item pulses with gentle magic—immune to rot, pests, or time. At the mountain's base, a shimmering dome of protective energy blooms outward like a soap bubble made of moonlight, expanding miles in every direction until it settles invisibly around what you sense is Eldenwood village. Nothing hostile (goblins, bandits, dragons, or even greedy lords) can cross it without your permission. The barrier hums a soft, soothing melody only the worthy can hear.

Mira's jaw drops. Her fox ears shoot straight up, tail fluffing out in pure shock. She stumbles backward, then forward again, eyes sparkling with tears.

"Lord Grim… this… this is no 'tiny wish'!" she gasps, voice cracking with awe and joy. "You… you've saved my entire village—hundreds of families! The elders spoke of genies in bedtime stories, but I never… I never dreamed one would answer me like this!" She falls to both knees, pressing her forehead to the grass. "I swear on my ancestors' tails, my life, my blades—everything—is yours. Command me and I obey. No one will ever hear your name from my lips unless you wish it. The kingdoms will never know a thing."

She rises slowly, still trembling with excitement. "The village is only a short walk east through the Whispering Woods. The barrier already feels… warm and safe. They'll wake to this miracle at dawn. I can guide you there quietly if you want, or… or anywhere else. The capital of the Azure Kingdom is a week's ride south, but with your power…" She trails off, realizing she's rambling, then bows again. "What would you have me do, Lord Grim? Ask anything of me—information, a map, a scouting report—my loyalty is eternal now."

The power in your chest purrs contentedly, no ironic twist this time; your wording was clear and generous. The two moons shine brighter overhead, almost as if the cosmos is applauding. No one else in the world sensed the grand working—your secret remains perfectly sealed.

You feel stronger, more in tune with this new reality. The enchanted mountain will feed Eldenwood for centuries if needed, and the barrier will stand until you revoke it.
