Chapter 1 - Introduction

The world was alive. Not in the way trees sway or rivers flow, but in the way unseen currents threaded through every rock, every breath, every heartbeat. It was Ether, the primal force that permeated everything. Some called it life itself; others whispered it was the will of the world made tangible.

Every being, from the smallest insect to the mightiest elder, contained within them a Core, a vessel capable of drawing Ether from their surroundings. These Cores determined everything about their possessor: how strong they could grow, how long their abilities could last, and what they could even achieve.

Abilities were as diverse as the beings that wielded them. Some could conjure fire that burned like the heart of a dying star. Others could manipulate wind, bending the air to shield a village or scatter an army. Healing powers restored life with a touch, while defensive abilities could turn a person into a fortress of impenetrable strength. Each Core dictated the limits of potential, yet skill and control were what separated the truly remarkable from the merely capable.

At birth, every individual carried the spark of power. But the Core slumbered, absorbing Ether subconsciously from the world around them. A child's fire might flare in frustration, a wind user's hair might sway in unprovoked currents, but these were faint, uncontrolled whispers of what was to come. True awakening happened at a certain age, when the Core aligned fully with the body and mind, allowing the ability to emerge in its intended form. From that moment, training and experience shaped not just power, but identity itself.

The world itself recognized a hierarchy among those who could harness Ether. Elves, with their naturally refined cores, dominated the upper echelons of ability. Humans were adaptable, unpredictable, sometimes dangerous in their creativity. Demi-humans possessed the raw strength and instincts of beasts, though their connection to Ether was often uneven. Hybrids, rare and enigmatic, could inherit the traits of two races, sometimes becoming terrifyingly strong, sometimes tragically flawed.

And then there was the Chaos of Ether, the unstable currents that twisted raw power when left unchecked. A Core that absorbed too much Ether too quickly, or a battle that pushed one beyond their limits, could ignite evolution. Abilities would change, mutate, and grow beyond expectation, reshaping the wielder entirely. It was beautiful and dangerous, the crucible through which legends were forged.

In this world, power was life, and life was power. Every school, every guild, every warlord understood the truth: those who mastered Ether controlled their destiny, and those who failed were consumed by it.
