Stephanie's point of view
My features hardened instantly. I turned my face toward the door, shutting him out with an icy armor.
"That is none of your business."
His gravelly voice rose, carrying a sharp, heavy undercurrent of a threat as he pointed a finger directly at me.
"Do not forget that I hold your neck and your entire future in my hands, Miss Miller. I suggest you remember that very clearly."
I closed my eyes in bitter defeat. I knew I had to feed his sickening curiosity before his volatile temper turned entirely against us. The words left my throat like a bitter pill.
"The story... it's incredibly complicated and messy."
He sat up, his interest visibly piqued. Interlocking his fingers, he locked his pupils onto my face.
"My mother and Claire are still downstairs; they haven't left yet. Which means I have plenty of time to listen to the details of your little drama."
