" That doesn't make sense, " Ash said, giving Captain Kruger a very horrendous look.
The news that had just reached him wasn't making sense in any way.
He was being transferred to the second batch by recommendation of the elven royal council, who were the ones behind his imprisonment.
After his rights were transferred to them through an anonymous vote by the high seats of kings :
a parliament made up of all the rulers of the continent's kingdoms, he learned the details only after Kruger explained them to him.
Kruger seemed surprised that he didn't know.
"It's strange for you not to know all the high kings .... Are you sure you are a prince?" Kruger asked, giving that same amused look she always had when she studied him,
looking for something she didn't keep.
"Sometimes I don't even know, " Ash answered with a calm sigh, knowing partially well the outcome of this so little action that they did.
The second batch was the one that had gone through the first set of preliminary training and had gotten to choose their divisions.
which are;
The Marksman, melee, mage, engineering, healer, and heavy artillery division
each coinciding with all the trainee halls',
The first Hall ,being the melee hall,
The Second Hall, being the engineer hall,
The third hall is Marksman.
The fourth is mage.
The fifth is a healer.
The sixth is heavy artillery.
From what he knows, it wasn't arranged based on the strength of the division or the strength of the captain holding it, but he felt it was something unforeseen,
something that couldn't be noticed easily.
The members of the second division were going to be more experienced and, worse still, more brutal in their approach to training, which was something he was supposed to be scared of.
But he had something else that scared him.
It was a fact that the second batch most times had to train in an open gate, sometimes in an artificial one, to mitigate the damage done.
But all in all, it was going to be dangerous for him, knowing well what his family could do.
He wasn't going to be shocked if his family had pulled some strings behind the scenes to put him in this sort of situation.
"Why the sudden shift? " Ash asked, not knowing the answer to this new question that had popped up in his mind,
He hadn't done anything that could be used against him unless they had come up with new evidence that could shift the sentence in their favor.
" I can't say for sure, but it has to do with your duel against Ken."
"Maybe they thought you were underestimated ," her reply made Ash freeze,
slowly turning his head to meet Kruger, whose expression had shifted to pure nonchalance.
"I'm sorry to remind you, but that guy nearly killed me ... I lost count of how many times I got slammed into the ground ".
Ash's reply showed he was utterly confused, trying to make sense of the situation.
"You don't know ?"
"Care to explain the poison found in your fingers, as well as Ken's injuries?"
"What about the poison bottles in your room? "
Those words nearly made his stomach drop,
since he had no idea that the pills he had been sent to work for him,
and he had abandoned them,
only for it to work against him;
He didn't even know that they were poisonous since he had never used them.
"I had no idea that it was poison," Ash said in a tone that was very much a whisper, with an expression that showed how shocked he was.
"No one cares if you did; if the higher ones say you did, then you did it. "
"If you are too weak to defend yourself, then suck it up like how you always do." Her voice was flat
cold
"And funny enough, you can't prove them otherwise."
But Ash knew that she was telling the truth; he didn't take the pill,
But it somehow found its way into his fingers.
Ash rubbed his forehead,
THINK
Someone had either just manipulated him.
Or this was a setup to push him closer to his death.
"I will give you some advice. "
"Whatever they're using as a hold of you, lose it before it becomes too late. I'm just passing on advice someone gave me to you."
Kruger said this time her expression was different, as if she had switched all of a sudden,
carrying the old pissed-off face, which was the one he never wanted to get used to.
" I really can't, that is my life's work, " Ash replied, already tired with the way things were turning out for him,
It wasn't odd for them to just hunt him down, just for something that would be a weapon that could break the balance in power if used right.
But it still didn't make sense for them to go that far for him.
If they simply wanted it, he could have offered it for an astronomical value,
But with the way they thought,
It would be better for them to just take the candy from the baby than to buy it and stash the money away.
"Why do you think there are after you? ..... don't think that it's because of that the little project that you're under heat " her ever-changing expression turned into mockery,
not even amusement this time
" no.. no… no… There is something inside your head that is very important .... An information very vital enough that it's too dangerous for someone to know,"
"and someone needs it, "
"while some don't want others to have it."
"So they would rather have you dead than you even know what you know."
She gave a pause,
turning her eyes from him to the window, looking at the visible scenery of the bright blue sky.
"You could say that your project is an added layer of protection that has been saving you, but if I were you, I would try my best to survive till I awaken, or better get in a good squad."
She said as she got ready to leave.
"Sleep tight, you'll need all the energy you can get, and, before I forget, you might want to stop holding yourself back, you survived my training for a few weeks."
" There's nothing there you cannot survive." She paused as a tired smile formed on her pretty face, unshaped by the scar.
"Oh, try not to disappoint me. "
She let the silence last a beat longer.
"You won't like it if you do."
With that, she stepped out, leaving Ash to ponder for a while.
'This is a mess. '
Ash fell asleep before he could even think further.
