The city of Amalos was loud, not just with sound, but with life.Voices filled the streets,Car engines roared. Music drifted from open windows. Everywhere, humans moved freely, unaware of the invisible line they walked between safety and something far more dangerous.
Kael stood by the large glass window of her temporary apartment, her gaze fixed on the city below. From this height, everything looked small and fragile.
Her reflection stared back at her faintly against the glass, Calm. Composed. Unreadable. But beneath that stillness…"A subtle tension was building"
Her meeting with Eryndor lingered in her mind in a way she did not like,it wasn't supposed to matter.
He was human,Nothing more. Her fingers curled slightly at her side.
That moment in his office… The brief contact of their hands… The feeling unsettled her"
Kael closed her eyes.
She had lived for centuries. She had faced war, betrayal, and bloodshed without hesitation.
Nothing unsettled her,nothing lingered.
So why…
Why did this?
A faint breeze slipped through the slightly open window, brushing against her skin.
Cold. Familiar.
And suddenly, the present began to blur.
Amalos, 1890
The city had been different then.
Quieter, Darker and alive in a way the modern world could never understand.
There were no towering buildings. No blinding electric lights. Only lanterns that flickered softly along cobblestone streets, casting long shadows into the night.
And those shadows,belonged to them.
Vampires ruled Amalos once, not from hiding but openly and powerfully.
And Kael,had been among them.
She moved through the night with effortless grace, her dark dress trailing slightly behind her as she walked along the empty street. The air was thick with the scent of rain and iron.
The city bowed to creatures like her, humans knew their place.Feared it and respected it.
A faint smile touched her lips as she turned down a quieter path,She wasn't alone.
"You're late."The voice came from the shadows. Low but familiar. Kael didn't stop walking.
"You're impatient," she replied calmly.
A figure stepped forward from the darkness.
Tall and Dangerous.
His presence alone seemed to shift the air around him. His eyes found hers immediately and softened.
"Only when it comes to you," he said. Kael stopped in front of him.
For a moment, neither of them moved.
The world around them seemed to fall away, leaving only silence between them.
Then— He reached for her.
His hand brushed against hers, pulling her closer without hesitation. Unlike the brief, strange contact she had felt earlier that day…
This felt familiar and real.
"You shouldn't be out alone," he murmured, his gaze scanning her face. "Not tonight."
Kael tilted her head slightly. "And since when have I needed protection?"
A faint smirk touched his lips.
"You don't," Timon admitted.
His hand tightened slightly around hers.
"But that doesn't mean I won't offer it."
Kael held his gaze, there was something dangerous in moments like this.
Not the kind found in battle, but quieter. A feeling far more difficult to control.
"You worry too much," she said.
"And you don't worry enough."
The response was immediate,Soft but firm.
For a brief second, something unreadable passed through Kael's expression and then it was gone.
"The elders are restless," he continued. "There are whispers… unusual movement among the humans."
Kael's eyes darkened slightly.
"Humans have always been restless."
" No Kael this is different." Timon added almost immediately. He stepped closer, lowered his voice.
"They're organizing." That made her pause...Not visibly.
"Let them try," she said after a moment. "They've never been a threat."
"Not yet." Silence stretched between them-The night felt heavier now. More uncertain.
Kael pulled her hand from his, though not harshly.
"You think too far ahead," she said.
"And you don't think far enough."
His gaze softened again. "You should be careful, Kael."
She turned slightly, beginning to walk again.
"I always am."
But he didn't follow immediately. His voice stopped her. "If anything changes… if the city turns..."
She looked back at him.
"For centuries, we have ruled this place," she said quietly. "Nothing will change that."
He looked at her for a long moment,as if trying to memorize something or understand something he couldn't quite reach.
Then he nodded once, Slowly.
"Stay alive," he said.
Kael's lips curved faintly."I always do."
And with that she disappeared into the night.
Neither of them knew the world they stood in was already beginning to fall apart.
Present Day — Amalos
Kael's eyes snapped open, the city lights returned bright and loud.
Her reflection stared back at her once more unchanged.
But something beneath it had shifted. Her jaw tightened slightly. Memories she rarely allowed herself to revisit them.
There was no use,the past was gone, burned away in war, betrayal, and blood.
And yet…Tonight, it had surfaced,Uninvited.
Her gaze drifted back to the city below.
To the place that had once belonged to her kind, now filled with humans who had no idea what had been taken… Or what still lingered.
A faint sound broke the silence behind her.
Her phone, buzzing softly against the table.
Kael turned and walked over.
Picked it up, a message from the lab.
"Your trial period begins tomorrow. 8:00 AM.
Her eyes lingered on the screen for a moment.
Then, she set the phone down slowly
Eryndor again...
That strange feeling returned again subtle but undeniable.
Kael exhaled softly, her expression returning to its usual calm.
Whatever this was… It didn't matter. He was human, this was a mission and nothing more.
As she turned back toward the window, watching the city lights flicker endlessly into the night…
One thought lingered quietly in her mind.
Unwanted and dangerous.
"Amalos was changing and she could feel it"
And this time—It didn't feel like history repeating itself.
"A subtle tension was building"
"The feeling unsettled her"
