Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Academy of Mirrors

The morning fog clung to Aurelia Academy, turning the glass-and-steel campus into a labyrinth of shadows. From the outside, it looked like a futuristic masterpiece, but inside, every corner, every corridor was a test of wit and nerve.

The bell rang. Not the usual chime, but a deep, resonant tone that seemed to pierce right through the students' hearts.

Kaito Nakamura walked calmly through the main hall, his dark eyes scanning everything. The fleeting glances of upperclassmen. The nervous twitches of newcomers. The subtle distrust in the teachers' expressions. He didn't smile. He observed.

Today wasn't just a normal day. Today, they would face the Reflection Game—an exercise disguised as harmless team challenges. Every choice, no matter how small, could shift points, social rank, and alliances.

Kaito's team was small, unassuming. Ayaka Fujimoto, the numbers whiz, flipped nervously through her notebook. Ren Sato, who looked like a carefree troublemaker, smirked—though the glint in his eye hinted at calculation, not mischief.

"We can't make a mistake," Ayaka whispered. "The rules… they're…" She trailed off as the principal entered the auditorium.

The man was tall, impeccably dressed, and his gaze carried a weight that made it feel like he could see through every thought, every intention.

"Welcome, students of the middle and upper classes," he said, voice calm but sharp. "Today, your decisions will reveal who truly understands how power works—not through strength, but strategy, loyalty, and intuition."

Kaito felt the mental battlefield unfolding. This wasn't just a test. It was a chessboard. And every student? A pawn, a knight, maybe even an invisible queen whose moves were still hidden.

He had to figure out who the real players were—and who was just following the flow. Rules weren't enough. Real decisions happened beyond the eyes of others.

As the first tasks were handed out, Kaito allowed himself the faintest smile. Not from joy, but understanding. Those who know the rules… are nothing compared to those who can read the players.

And Kaito intended to read every one of them.
