Chapter 72 - Chapter 72 Cycle Witch-IX

"I am not interested in these things; I am only interested in how to help others." Syl shook her head, seemingly indifferent to what Barro was saying.

Although she was very interested, she had to pretend she wasn't.

"As expected of Silver Crow, always so warm-hearted." Speaking of this, Barro seemed to gain interest in the conversation. As he led Syl toward the drawing room, he said, "I heard from my father that my great-grandfather was just a down-and-out noble back then, living in poverty with only a small piece of territory left."

"Years of natural disasters caused almost all the serfs to flee, and my great-grandfather contracted the plague and some other diseases that year... But fortunately, he met Silver Crow, who happened to be passing through the territory. You know the rest; you cured my great-grandfather."

"Even the skin on his body that had rotted from the plague was healed. Do you remember what you said back then? You said... it was because you saw my great-grandfather's face was all scarred and pockmarked, and it looked uncomfortable, so you cured him."

"But I know this was just an excuse for Silver Crow to keep others from feeling too indebted, just like how you symbolically charged 5000 currency after curing my daughter. You don't really like the feeling of others owing you favors, do you?"

Hearing this, the eyelids under Syl's mask twitched involuntarily, but she still nodded with feigned calmness. "I don't like getting involved with others."

Syl had only wanted to find an excuse to leave and take the money before doing so, but how had Barro imagined all this overnight?

But that was fine too; it saved Syl from having to explain herself.

After bringing Syl to the drawing room and having her sit on a chair with a touch of Rococo style, Barro bowed slightly to Syl: "My daughter is still upstairs. I will have someone call her down right away..."

Barro walked out of the drawing room, instructed a maid to call Per down, and then returned to the drawing room, sitting in the chair opposite Syl.

To keep the air from falling into silence, Barro tried his best to find a topic, so as not to make Silver Crow feel slighted.

"Hmm..." Barro thought about what topic to find. As he glanced around casually, he suddenly saw something and said with a smile, "Silver Crow, are you interested in what happened to my great-grandfather afterward? All of this is thanks to you."

This topic of Barro's was clearly hitting the mark, exactly the question Syl wanted to clarify.

"Go ahead. I am also very interested in how the people I've helped turned out." Syl reached out to unfasten her mask, took it off, and brushed her long silver-gray hair back with her hand.

"After being cured by you, my great-grandfather's attitude toward life seemed to undergo a massive transformation. He found an old friend, borrowed a large sum of money, recruited refugees again, developed the territory, and became the beloved Baron Bonsandi..."

Barro seemed quite proud of this. He stood up, walked toward the cabinet, and pointed to a copper plate with words engraved on it, saying: "Look, this is a copper relief carved by a sculptor to praise my great-grandfather... The expression on it is so vivid."

"And this date, 1453. This year was the very year you cured my great-grandfather, and it was also the beginning of his rebirth. He specifically asked the sculptor to add it."

"And my grandfather's biography," Barro took down a book placed on the fireplace, walked over to Syl, and handed it to her. "If you don't mind, you can take a look. This is a biography written by my grandfather himself, and it should contain records of my great-grandfather's encounter with you."

It was a thin book written on parchment, and it didn't look like there were many words. Syl reached out to take the biography and began to flip through it.
