Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 – The Girl Who Came Back Like a Storm

Westbridge University had a way of making everything feel larger than life.

Maybe it was the wide marble walkways that reflected the morning sun, or the towering buildings that stood like silent witnesses to thousands of student stories. Or maybe it was simply the people—ambitious, loud, dramatic—each one chasing something.

Whatever it was, the campus was alive.

Clusters of students filled the courtyard, laughter rising above the hum of conversations. Freshers dragged suitcases, seniors leaned against railings like they owned the place, and somewhere in the distance, music played faintly from someone's speaker.

And then there were them.

Adrian Cole and Lucas Hale.

They didn't try to stand out.

They just… did.

Lucas walked with easy confidence, hands tucked casually into his pockets, his lazy smile already drawing attention. He noticed it too—the whispers, the stares, the not-so-subtle glances.

He thrived on it.

"First day of the semester," Lucas said, stretching his arms like he had no care in the world. "New faces, new drama. I can feel it."

Beside him, Adrian Cole walked with quiet composure. His posture was straight, his expression calm, and unlike Lucas, he paid absolutely no attention to the crowd watching them.

"You say that every semester," Adrian replied.

Lucas grinned. "And I'm always right."

Adrian didn't bother arguing.

Lucas leaned closer, lowering his voice just enough to make it sound conspiratorial.

"Don't tell me you're not excited."

"For what?"

"For anything," Lucas said, gesturing around them. "College is supposed to be fun. Unpredictable. Chaotic."

Adrian glanced at him briefly.

"You're enough chaos already."

Lucas gasped softly. "Wow. I open up emotionally, and you attack me?"

"You didn't open up. You complained."

Lucas smirked. "Same thing."

They walked in comfortable silence for a moment.

To anyone watching, they were just best friends—two people who had known each other long enough to move in sync without thinking.

No one saw the small details.

The way Lucas always walked slightly closer than necessary.

The way Adrian slowed his pace without realizing it.

The quiet understanding between them.

Lucas tilted his head slightly, eyeing Adrian.

"You're in a good mood."

"I'm always in a good mood."

"That's a lie."

Adrian didn't respond.

Lucas grinned wider.

"You smiled this morning."

Adrian frowned slightly. "No, I didn't."

"You did."

"I didn't."

Lucas leaned closer, voice dropping. "You were looking at me."

Adrian stopped walking.

Lucas stopped too.

For a brief second, the world around them faded into background noise.

Adrian's gaze held his.

"Lucas."

"Yeah?"

"Behave."

Lucas laughed, stepping back as if nothing had happened.

"Fine, fine."

And just like that, the moment disappeared.

Or at least… it seemed to.

They continued walking toward the parking lot.

And that's when everything changed.

It started with a sound.

Sharp.

Sudden.

The loud screech of tires against pavement.

Heads turned.

Conversations stopped.

Something was coming—fast.

Before anyone could react, a motorcycle burst into view, speeding toward the parking area with dangerous momentum.

Lucas blinked.

"…Is that allowed?"

Adrian's eyes narrowed slightly.

The motorcycle swerved, the rider struggling to maintain control before—

SCREECH!

It came to a violent stop.

Too close.

Way too close.

Right beside Adrian's car.

For a moment, everything went completely still.

Even the air felt tense.

Lucas slowly turned his head toward Adrian.

"…Please tell me that didn't just happen."

Adrian didn't answer.

His gaze was fixed on the car.

A clean, sleek, expensive black car.

Now with a very noticeable scratch running along the side.

Silence stretched.

Then the rider removed their helmet.

Time seemed to slow.

Short hair fell slightly out of place.

Sharp eyes scanned the scene.

A girl.

Not just any girl.

There was something about her—something bold, unfiltered, completely unbothered by the tension she had just created.

She swung her leg off the motorcycle and landed smoothly on the ground.

Then she looked at the car.

Then at Adrian.

Then, without a hint of guilt, she spoke.

"Your car was in my way."

Lucas choked on air.

Adrian blinked once.

"My car," he said slowly, "was parked."

She shrugged.

"Still in my way."

Lucas turned fully toward her, disbelief written all over his face.

"This is insane."

She didn't even look at him.

Instead, she picked up her helmet and dusted it off casually.

"Accidents happen."

Lucas took a step forward.

"Wait—what?"

She started walking away.

Just like that.

No apology.

No explanation.

Nothing.

Lucas pointed after her.

"Did you see that?!"

Adrian's gaze followed her retreating figure.

There was something strange about the way she moved.

Confident.

Familiar.

Like she had walked into their lives before.

Lucas ran a hand through his hair.

"She just scratched your car and left!"

Adrian didn't respond immediately.

His eyes lingered a second longer.

Then—

He looked away.

"It's fine."

Lucas stared at him.

"It's not fine."

"It's just a scratch."

Lucas stepped closer.

"You're being too calm about this."

Adrian turned toward him.

"And you're being too loud."

Lucas looked personally attacked.

"That's not the point!"

But Adrian wasn't listening anymore.

Because for some reason—

His mind was still on her.

Meanwhile…

Across the courtyard, the girl finally stopped walking.

The noise of the campus faded behind her.

Slowly, she turned around.

Her gaze found them instantly.

Adrian.

Lucas.

Exactly where she had left them.

For a brief moment, the confidence in her expression softened.

Her eyes held something deeper.

Something older.

"Still the same…" she murmured quietly.

Her fingers tightened slightly around the helmet she was holding.

A memory flickered in her mind.

A mango tree.

Two boys arguing.

A childish promise.

Her lips curved into a faint smile.

"Adrian… Lucas…"

She said their names like she had never forgotten them.

Because she hadn't.

Not once.

Her gaze lingered for just a second longer.

Then she shook her head lightly, as if pushing the past away.

"So you really don't recognize me."

There was no sadness in her voice.

Only amusement.

Maybe even… excitement.

She put her helmet back on.

"Well…"

Her smile returned—this time sharper.

More dangerous.

"Let's fix that."

With that, she turned and walked away again.

But this time—

It wasn't an accident.

It was intentional.

Because Riley Morgan hadn't just returned to Westbridge University.

She had walked straight back into the lives of the two boys who once meant everything to her.

And this time…

She wasn't planning to leave quietly.

She was going to shake their world—

Turn it upside down—

And make sure they never forgot her again.
