Chapter 19 - Chapter 20: First Milestone

The school announced a team-building camp for the basketball squad, complete with obstacle courses, mini-games, and overnight bonding activities. I was nervous—but excited—because this would be the first time I and Aiden were out of the usual school chaos together.

From the start, the day was intense. I struggled through an obstacle course, and Aiden jogged back to me.

"Need a hand?" he asked, smirking.

"I… might," I admitted, cheeks red from effort and embarrassment.

He grabbed my hand, steadying me. The touch lingered slightly longer than necessary. My chest fluttered. "Better?" he asked.

"Much better," I whispered.

The team laughed at our "dynamic duo" energy, but Marco's glare didn't escape me. Every time he passed by, I felt his eyes on us, sharp and competitive.

Later, during a team relay, Aiden and I were paired together. Running side by side, dodging obstacles, and passing the ball, I realized something: we worked perfectly as a team—on and off the court.

Finally, at the end of the day, the campfire circle brought us together. Everyone was joking, singing, and roasting marshmallows. I sat next to Aiden, shoulders brushing.

"Today was… perfect," I said softly.

"Yeah," he said, eyes reflecting the firelight. He leaned closer. "I like being with you like this… outside of everything else."

My heart skipped. "I like it too."

For the first time, we shared a quiet, lingering kiss under the stars, away from teasing teammates and prying eyes. My heart raced like the final buzzer in a championship game.

But even as we pulled back, smiling shyly at each other, I noticed Marco standing across the circle, smirking in a way that promised trouble. The rivalry wasn't over.

High school, basketball, and romance were a messy game—but I realized one thing clearly: with Aiden, I was ready to play every round.
