Chapter 19 - Opening the Box

"Fight."

The single word landed with weight.

Amid the noisy chaos at the academy gates, it rang clearly in Shuren's ears.

Not stalemate.Not waiting.Not compromise.

Fight.

Fight against fate.Fight against powerful enemies.Fight against this predetermined destiny of annihilation.

Shuren looked at his companion—someone who seemed completely transformed—then at Rin, standing firmly behind Mo, her gaze unwavering.

At that moment, he finally understood Mo's true intention.

Mo was no longer hiding.

Because he had already chosen to confront everything head-on.

"But…" Shuren still hesitated, his eyes sweeping over the subtle gazes watching from all around. "Even if we're going to fight, why reveal ourselves now?"

Uchiha Mo smiled, a deeper meaning hidden within it.

"Because we need allies."

"A piece hidden in the shadows can only wait to be moved. But a player who steps into the light… can take control of the board."

His gaze shifted toward the distant Hokage Rock.

"From today onward, we will make everyone understand—within the Uchiha, there is not only the radicals and the conservatives."

"There is a third path."

"What path?" Shuren asked instinctively.

"The path to survival."

Mo withdrew his gaze and looked at Shuren and Rin.

"Not survival through submission… but survival with dignity."

"To achieve that, we need power. We need allies. And more importantly—we need a variable no one could ever anticipate."

As he spoke, he gently placed a hand on Rin's shoulder.

"And she… is our greatest variable."

At those words, Uchiha Rin lifted her head.

In those eyes—so eerily similar to someone else's—flickered a wisdom far beyond her years.

She spoke softly,

"That masked man will never expect… that there is another 'Rin' in this world, waiting for him."

That's right.

Uchiha Rin knew the truth of her own origins.

A being created from the genes of both Rin Nohara and Uchiha Obito.

From the very beginning, Mo had hidden nothing from her. He told her everything—every truth—and gave her the choice.

Though… that choice hardly mattered.

From the moment Uchiha Rin came into existence, her fate had already become inseparably tied to Uchiha Obito.

Whether she chose to accept it or run from it—

The moment that man saw her face, their paths were destined to collide.

"I choose to face it."

Her voice was soft, yet carried undeniable resolve.

"If this is my fate… then I will be the one to change it."

Shuren stared at the two of them, stunned.

"So… you both know the true identity of that masked man?"

Mo nodded with a faint smile.

"Of course."

"Uchiha Obito. A wielder of the Mangekyō Sharingan—beyond the three tomoe. That's why I said your plan was doomed to fail."

"Uchiha… Obito?" Shuren repeated, disbelief written all over his face. "The hero who died during the Kannabi Bridge battle?"

"How is that even possible…?"

"Died?" Mo let out a faint scoff.

"That was nothing more than a carefully staged act."

"The Obito of today… is a madman determined to create a world where Rin exists."

Hearing this, Shuren glanced at Uchiha Rin, realization dawning.

"So Rin's appearance…"

Mo continued calmly,

"Is identical to the Rin Nohara he loved. But her personality… is completely different."

Shuren took a deep breath, finally piecing everything together.

Meanwhile, Uchiha Rin stood quietly beneath the moonlight, her face—so similar to someone else's—appearing cold and distant.

"Uchiha Rin. Rin Nohara. Uchiha Obito. Mangekyō. The Nine-Tails incident. Minato…"

Inside the Hokage's office, smoke curled thickly in the air.

Through the Telescope Technique—

Hiruzen Sarutobi had originally only intended a routine inspection of the academy's surroundings.

Yet by chance, he witnessed the striking meeting between Uchiha Mo and Uchiha Rin.

The moment he saw Rin's lips form the words—

"That masked man will never expect…"

He immediately formed hand seals, strengthening the technique.

As the conversation unfolded, the Third Hokage's expression grew increasingly grave.

"Uchiha… Obito?"

When he recognized the name, the pipe in his hand nearly slipped.

Ash scattered across the desk, yet he paid it no mind.

He knew that name well.

The passionate boy who was always late. The one who would sacrifice himself for his comrades. The Uchiha anomaly. The hero who was supposed to have died at Kannabi Bridge.

And yet now—

That name, long engraved upon the memorial stone…

Was somehow connected to the masked man behind the Nine-Tails disaster.

Images from that night flashed through Hiruzen's mind.

The rampaging Nine-Tails.The faint glow of the Sharingan. The mysterious masked man.And the deaths of the Fourth Hokage and his wife.

Absurd.

Utterly absurd.

As far as he knew, Minato had held Obito in high regard.

Kushina had treated him like a son—even entrusting her dream of Hokage to him.

If all of this was true…

Then had the years of suspicion and suppression toward the Uchiha played directly into someone else's hands?

Had the truth of the Nine-Tails incident been buried… allowing the real enemy to continue operating in the shadows?

Uchiha Obito…

How could you do such a thing?

"Someone."

Hiruzen's voice was low.

An ANBU operative appeared instantly, kneeling on one knee.

"Retrieve all records of the Kannabi Bridge mission. Especially detailed reports on Uchiha Obito."

He paused, then added,

"Secretly investigate Uchiha Mo and Uchiha Rin. I want everything—from their birth to the present."

"Yes!"

The ANBU vanished.

Hiruzen sat back down, fingers tapping unconsciously against the desk.

Just as he fell into thought—

In the crystal sphere, Uchiha Mo suddenly tilted his head slightly, his gaze seemingly sweeping toward this direction.

The next moment—

The image shattered into rippling distortion.

Hiruzen's fingers froze.

"Uchiha Mo…" he exhaled slowly, smoke drifting from his lips.

"You hide yourself… far too well."

This seemingly ordinary Uchiha chūnin—

Not only knew the shocking truth of Obito's survival, but was also fully aware of the Hokage's surveillance methods.

That glance just now…

Was clearly a message.

I know you're watching.

And everything I said… was meant for you to hear.

The ember of the pipe flickered in the dim light, illuminating the Third Hokage's solemn face.

"It seems… we've all underestimated this Uchiha."

Recalling Mo's file in the Police Force—

Average talent.Unremarkable performance.Never once drawing attention.

A man who had hidden himself so perfectly…

Choosing this moment to reveal his hand.

Hiruzen's gaze slowly turned toward the Uchiha district.

After a long silence, he spoke:

"Send orders."

Another ANBU appeared instantly.

"Inform all departments—suspend surveillance of the Uchiha clan, and halt all special operations targeting them."

The ANBU was slightly surprised, but still responded immediately.

"Yes!"

After the operative left, Hiruzen unrolled a blank scroll and began writing slowly:

"To Uchiha Fugaku, Clan Head—Tomorrow at noon. Hokage's Office. A discussion."

It was time to reassess Konoha's relationship with the Uchiha.

Since Uchiha Mo had chosen to deliver his message in such a manner…

He must already be prepared for what comes next.

Until his methods were fully understood—

It would be unwise to act rashly.

After all…

This game had only just begun.
