Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 - Kael

My mind had been torn the moment that the she-wolf had stepped through the doors. Her eyes had stopped me in my tracks. A unique violet shade. Shimmering in the light of the sunlight that was coming through the window. And that alone made my heart pound within my chest. But the beautiful blond hair I recalled from my moonlit figure in white was not there. This she-wolf had waves of darkness, twisted up upon her head in a tidy little bun.

I knew I had been ridiculed by many a friend for the long-term hunt for this girl, but she meant everything to me. If it was not for her, I would not be here. She had been sent to me for a reason. A vision. Like an angel. Only I know that she was real. I knew that she was out there waiting for me. But as I studied the unfamiliar she-wolf before me, I did not know what to think...

Yet as I stood, seemingly frozen in the moment, and she was too, my wolf, Varr, paced excitedly within my mind, whimpering that this girl was his mate. My heart was doing the strangest of things, and my mind would not focus...

I did not know what to think. The moment she had walked inside the room it had become evident she was not the woman I was there to see. As werewolves we are able to sense one another's strength. Ranks. And this she-wolf was weak. An omega at best. And the way that she was dressed told me she was likely staff. Was she worthy of being fated to an Alpha? I found myself questioning. But then my heart twisted anxiously at the idea.

I was not like other Alphas. I had so often been reprimanded for being too soft. Too compassionate. Alphas were meant to be strong. Brutal. Ruthless. And while I was stronger now than I had been before I had my wolf, I struggled desperately with the ruthless element of being an Alpha. And being focused heavily upon rank was not my thing...

My eyes had lingered upon the she-wolf in front of me, her lashes fluttering anxiously. She had been sent to me for a reason. Maybe just as my moonlit figure in white had, a small flicker of a thought darted through my mind. Bringing my attention once more to her eyes.

Those eyes. Those eyes were so stunning... unique in their violet hues, just as I remembered.. so, could it be? Had fate done exactly as I had been hoping for so long? My heart clung to the possibility it could be her. While Varr urged me forward. Desperate for me to give our fated mate a chance. A wolf was always one to crave his fated, and my wolf was no different. He was giddy in her presence, a strange sensation, I had to admit...

I needed to know more about her. She intrigued me. But the distant look within her eyes bothered me. The glazed expression told me she was communicating with another. I felt pushed back. Offended. Did she not care her fated was here? Did she not want to connect with me? But that same sense of intrigue about the she-wolf did not dissipate. I needed to know more...

As we moved toward the seats, everything changed as another she-wolf came charging into the room. One that I could sense immediately knew her power. Knew her position. An Alpha female. Perhaps the one I had been meant to meet with? But more than anything, I was struck by her beauty. The waves of blond hair, and as she came to a halt by the sofa, one hand slung angrily upon her hip, angry, and as her words completely threw me, her eyes met mine, and I did not know what to do.

These too, were eyes of startling violet. Watching me. Her words had just implied that the woman I had learned was my fated had created a plan to come here to trick me? My heart filled with disappointment, while Varr whimpered sadly, sensing my unease. But unease aside, there was something about the she-wolf who had arrived in the room.

"I think there is a misunderstanding..." The darker haired omega mumbled, her eyes upon her feet, looking thoroughly ashamed. I did not know what to think.

"Too right there is a misunderstanding." The blond woman, Grace, I believed her name was, if she was in fact the woman, I was due to meet. "You decided you were jealous of the fact I was about to meet an incredibly handsome Alpha and decided to come and try to steal him for yourself. Did you think he would be foolish enough not to recognise you were not an Alpha female? How insulting to his intelligence..."

Not knowing what to think, Grace may have made a valid point. Did the she-wolf I had learned was my fated truly believe I would not recognise her lack of rank? That was quite an insult to my own position within my pack... Was the girl as power-hungry as Grace implied? I was struggling more now for reasons as to why the Moon Goddess would choose someone like her for me, even more so, considering her rank...

Grace gave me a small smile, and a shake of her head. "I apologise for the insult, Alpha. My maid seems to have overstepped her mark."

I was confused. Totally and utterly torn as to what to do. Any good werewolf would follow his soul, and usually his wolf, and speak with his fated. But, my mind, and my heart were forever linked to the moonlit figure in white. My saviour. I had hoped one day we would be reunited. The alpha female by my side was so like her...

"Alpha, I can only apolgise that I am late." Grace offered me a small smile. "As you are now aware, someone had incorrectly informed me, for their own gain, I might add..." She gave her maid a cold glare. "That our meeting was cancelled. But now that I am here, perhaps we should proceed?"

I smiled in return. Unsure what to say to her. The look from those eyes alone was mesmerising. The way she was watching me had me hooked already. But then a small part of me, likely influenced by my wolf, and the forlorn expression upon Wren's face, was telling me to consider the she-wolf sitting almost cowering in the corner. The one fated to us. The one meant for us... Were those the actions of a power-hungry omega? She looked terrified. What was a man to do? Follow his heart, and his many dreams, or follow fate?

"I had thought your mother and father would be here too." Grace said, sitting down alongside me, sitting a little closer than I would like, if I was honest. She offered me a gift bag. "I brought your mother some flowers."

I looked down at the delicate silver gift bag, before my gaze fell to the beautiful arrangement inside. An arrangement of unique white flowers. My hand slipped to my knees, as my heart felt like it had skipped a beat at the sight of them. Flowers that I had seen before. Flowers that I had burned within my memory, so much so I had researched what they were. A white Egret Orchid. One whose petals formed a flower like an egret spreading its wings.

"Where did you get these from?" I near stuttered at her, visions of my childhood memory racing through my mind.

"Oh, they come from my personal garden. I hope your mother will not mind, I thought that it was so much more personable than a big bouquet from a florist..." Grace said with a smile, and a sideways glance in the maid's direction. But anything beyond the beautiful blond, violet eyed she-wolf had seemed to fade away now. I think she had returned to me. And my decision may well be made...
