Chapter 84 - Chapter 84 The Second Core

The stone staircase felt different now.

Narrower.

Quieter.

More... alive.

Each footstep echoed deeper than it should have.

As though their presence wasn't merely being heard—

it was being noticed.

No one spoke.

Because everyone felt the same thing.

They weren't descending into the darkness.

Something in the darkness was reaching toward them.

Arga walked at the front.

The lunchbox in his hands no longer simply glowed.

It pulsed.

Strong.

Steady.

Like a heartbeat that wasn't entirely his own.

The thirteen rice grains trembled softly.

Not with fear.

Not with uncertainty.

Recognition.

Kai glanced ahead.

"This isn't like the first core."

Arga never looked back.

"No."

His eyes remained fixed on the darkness below.

"It isn't searching for us."

A pause.

"It's been waiting."

At last, the staircase ended.

The team stepped into a vast underground chamber—

and immediately stopped.

Every single one of them.

At the center of the room stood a crystal vessel.

Untouched.

Unbroken.

Pristine.

As though time itself had never dared to lay a hand upon it.

And inside—

a golden light slowly revolved.

Calm.

Silent.

Ancient.

Not sleeping.

Simply choosing to remain still.

Lila stared at it.

"...It's cleaner."

Farhan checked the readings on his scanner.

"The frequency..."

He frowned.

"It's perfect."

Bu Maya slowly approached.

"This core isn't awakening."

Her eyes remained fixed on the crystal.

"It's waiting for the right person."

Silence followed.

The words felt uncomfortably accurate.

Arga stepped forward.

One step.

Two.

Three.

With every step he took, the golden light changed.

Not brighter.

Not stronger.

Opening.

Like eyes that had finally found something worth seeing.

The lunchbox erupted with light.

The thirteen rice grains spun in perfect harmony.

And for the first time—

Arga didn't feel summoned.

He felt welcomed.

A warmth spread through his chest.

Not power.

Not authority.

Acceptance.

Slowly, he raised the lunchbox.

Golden light flowed outward.

Gentle.

Peaceful.

Without pressure.

Without force.

It simply existed.

And the second core answered.

The two lights met.

Yet they did not collide.

They did not compete.

They merged.

Like two rivers that had always belonged to the same sea.

WHOOOOM—

The sound wasn't an explosion.

It was a breath.

The first breath after a very long silence.

The chamber changed.

Brighter.

Warmer.

Alive.

Bimo blinked.

"...Okay."

His voice was unusually quiet.

"Why do I suddenly feel calm?"

Sinta didn't answer.

Because she felt it too.

Kai watched the core.

"It isn't rejecting anyone."

His eyes narrowed.

"It's choosing."

CLANG!

The sharp sound of metal shattered the moment.

Everyone turned.

Footsteps echoed from the entrance.

Fast.

Numerous.

Familiar.

Sinta immediately reached for her weapon.

"Dominion."

The figures emerged from the shadows.

The man in the black hat appeared first.

Then the Dominion leader stepped into the chamber.

As calm as ever.

But something about him was different.

He wasn't calculating.

He wasn't observing.

He was captivated.

His eyes remained locked on the core.

"So..."

A faint smile crossed his face.

"This is the original."

Nobody moved.

Nobody attacked.

Everyone understood.

This wasn't a battle.

Not yet.

This was something else.

A moment of judgment.

A moment of choice.

The Dominion leader spoke softly.

"You can't protect all of them."

Sinta answered immediately.

"We don't need to own them."

Her gaze never wavered.

"We only need to protect them."

His smile deepened slightly.

"The world has never been that simple."

Arga barely heard the exchange.

His focus remained on the core.

Then the voice returned.

"Guardian..."

The lunchbox trembled.

Stronger than ever before.

The light intensified.

And then—

it appeared.

Slowly.

Gently.

A new grain of rice formed among the others.

The fourteenth.

It didn't emerge.

It was born.

The chamber fell silent.

No explosion followed.

No destruction.

Only light.

Warm.

Deep.

Endless.

The golden glow washed across the room.

Touching everyone.

Even Dominion.

For one brief moment—

there were no enemies.

No ambitions.

No conflict.

Only life.

When the light finally faded, everything felt different.

The second core had awakened.

Not fully understood.

Not fully revealed.

But awake.

Present.

Aware.

Kai smiled faintly.

"It's awake."

The Dominion leader remained silent.

No anger.

No disappointment.

Only fascination.

His eyes shifted toward Arga.

"Interesting."

A pause.

"You're more than a guardian."

His gaze sharpened.

"You're a catalyst."

The man in the black hat stepped forward.

"Should we continue?"

Silence lingered for several seconds.

Then the Dominion leader shook his head.

"No."

He turned away.

Calm.

Unhurried.

As though he had lost nothing.

As though he had simply learned something valuable.

At the entrance, he stopped.

Without looking back, he spoke.

"The more cores awaken..."

"...the less control you'll have over what comes next."

Then he left.

Dominion followed.

And once again, silence filled the chamber.

But not the same silence as before.

This one felt larger.

Deeper.

Heavier.

Arga stood before the awakened core.

The lunchbox now contained fourteen glowing rice grains.

Their light was steady.

Comforting.

Yet far from light.

Sinta looked around the chamber.

"We have two now."

Farhan activated the network map.

Dozens of faint signals pulsed across the display.

"...And this is only the beginning."

Kai stared at the awakened core.

"The others will wake up eventually."

No one disagreed.

Because deep down—

they already knew it was true.

Arga closed the lunchbox.

Took a slow breath.

Then looked at his friends.

"If the others awaken..."

His voice was calm.

Certain.

"...we need to be ready for a world that won't be the same."

Far beyond the island—

deep within the unseen network—

other dormant cores began to stir.

Not because they had been called.

But because, for the first time in a very long time—

they knew.

Their Guardian had arrived.
