Chapter 6 - Danger In The Lost Land

Just as they lowered their guard, more creatures arrived. They launched another attack, and these creatures were stronger—bigger, faster, and more ruthless. The friends had no choice but to flee. The relentless creatures chased them through the dark forest, their glowing red eyes cutting through the shadows like fiery beacons of doom.

Exhausted and desperate, they stumbled upon a cave hidden behind thick vines and jagged rocks. Without hesitation, Nite led them inside and quickly sealed the entrance with a protection talisman. The faint glow of the talisman cast eerie patterns on the cave walls, a fragile barrier between them and the monsters outside.

But even with the talisman in place, none of them dared to rest. Their breaths were shallow, ears straining to catch any sound from beyond the barrier. The tension was suffocating.

"Guys... that talisman isn't going to hold them off forever. So, what's the plan?" Doushi asked, his voice barely above a whisper, eyes wide with fear.

Nite's jaw clenched tightly. His anger simmered just beneath the surface, and he turned sharply to Barka. "What's wrong with you?" he demanded, his voice harsh.

Barka blinked, confused and hurt. "What do you mean?"

Nite stepped closer, his eyes blazing. "You know you're like a magnet for trouble. It's because of your reckless thirst for adventure that we're trapped here with two monsters ready to feast on us!" His words cut deep, breaking the fragile silence.

Barka's heart sank. She looked down, unable to meet his gaze.

"Your need for excitement is the beginning of our doom, you wretch!" Nite's voice echoed through the cave, sharp and unforgiving.

Doushi and Xiao Xi lowered their heads, silently agreeing with Nite's harsh verdict. Barka's adventurous spirit had brought them to the edge of disaster.

Meanwhile, the Netherworld itself was unraveling. The spirits of resentment grew stronger, darker, and more terrifying than ever before. They spread like wildfire, consuming everything in their path. The ruby, once a beacon of hope and protection, was gone, leaving the realm vulnerable to this unstoppable wave of destruction.

The streets ran red with blood as these spirits feasted on the living, mutating into grotesque forms and establishing a savage hierarchy. The once orderly Netherworld was now a war zone, a place of chaos and fear.

Underground, the citizens trembled in fear and grief. The authorities scrambled to control the growing unrest, but their efforts were futile. Taike, overwhelmed by complaints and accusations, struggled to maintain order.

Volunteers, furious and desperate, surrounded him. "What was that? We trusted you! But instead, you let this happen! Our children could have died just like Jirom!" they shouted, voices thick with anger and pain.

Taike's heart ached as he faced the crowd's fury. "We were trying to protect you... I don't have all the answers," he admitted, voice breaking under the weight of failure.

Sadokshi and Malai stood solemnly outside their tents, trying to make sense of the nightmare unfolding around them. Malai paced anxiously while Sadokshi sat lost in thought, their faces etched with worry.

Suddenly, a member of the authorities arrived with shocking news. "We found footage from inside the ship before it took off."

The screen flickered on, revealing Barka and her friends inside the ship, examining the controls. Jirom boarded moments before the ship suddenly launched. Sadokshi and Malai's eyes widened in disbelief.

Taike, watching the footage, sank to his knees. A single tear traced down his cheek as he looked up at the angry crowd. Jirom's mother sobbed uncontrollably nearby.

Sadokshi gripped Malai's arm tightly, their hands trembling at the thought of losing their only child in the cold, unforgiving realm. Taike's voice cracked as he whispered, "I... I have failed my people."

Back at Do Shereba, the creatures outside the cave grew impatient. They clawed and scratched at the talisman's barrier, their hunger and frustration mounting. Fear gripped their trapped prey tightly as the barrier weakened.

Inside the cave, panic simmered beneath the surface. The friends stood in tense silence, unsure of their next move. Nite fought to control his anger, knowing they had bigger problems than their personal conflicts. Barka's guilt gnawed at her—she knew it was her fault they were in this mess, that their lives hung by a fragile thread.

Summoning courage, she stepped forward, her fists clenched and shoulders squared. Her eyes shone with determination.

"Guys... I know what I've caused. I know I'm the reason we're in this mess, but please—let me fix it. Give me one more chance," she pleaded, her voice thick with remorse.

Xiao Xi smiled warmly, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "Of course, Barka. We trust you."

"Go on, girl! We've got your back!" Doushi added, nodding in support.

Barka looked at Nite, her voice softer now, bracing herself for rejection. "What about you, Nite?"

He sighed deeply but nodded reluctantly. "Alright... I trust you."

Her smile returned briefly before fading into a calm, serious expression. "Fighting these creatures isn't an option. But we can avoid them. This cave is deep—there has to be another exit. Even if there isn't, the darkness will confuse the creatures. They won't follow us."

"Alright, Barka... we trust your plan," Doushi said firmly.

Just as they prepared to move, a sickening crack echoed through the cave. The talisman shattered. The creatures had broken through.

The friends froze, terror flooding their veins. In the darkness, only the creatures' glowing red eyes were visible as they roared and advanced, each step echoing their impending doom.

Nite's breath hitched, tears streaming down his face. Barka felt frozen, her mind blank. She wanted to run, but her feet were rooted to the ground. Tears slid down her cheeks as she realized—they were as good as dead.
