Chapter 16 - 16

Chapter 16: A bunch of ruthless people upstairs

"Wait a minute, I'll go back inside to get something, then we'll go out."

Bai Tang turned around and took out several police stun guns from the bedroom, giving one to each of Bai Jiyang and the others.

Everyone tacitly refrained from asking why so many stun guns were placed in the bedroom.

Then we walked out together, and only then did we realize that it was a woman shouting in the hallway.

"Is there no justice in this world? My husband was electrocuted half to death by several families upstairs. Is there no one going to do anything about it?"

The woman cried and wailed, and deliberately peeked down the hallway to see if anyone was coming down.

Isn't this the daughter-in-law of that old lady from yesterday?

Seeing that Bai Tang had walked up the stairs alone, the woman assumed that Bai Tang was alone and immediately started hurling insults at her.

Before he could finish his rant, he saw several men holding stun guns following behind Bai Tang.

The woman's voice immediately subsided.

But the woman kept saying, "The electric fence you installed in your house electrocuted my man, and now he's half-dead. What are you going to do about it?"

A crowd of onlookers, eager for a good show, gathered in the stairwell.

Bai Tang said to the woman who was still throwing a tantrum, "We put up a sign here a long time ago saying that there is electricity on the door. You went and touched it yourselves. Whose fault is it?"

We're already being lenient by not reporting your ill intentions, and now you're trying to turn the tables on us? Are you out of your mind?

A busybody chimed in, "You guys electrocuted this man so badly he can't move, isn't that your fault? You should compensate him."

"You guys are taking up three floors upstairs. Who knows how much stuff you've stored up? You don't even give us a share."

"You're the ones who open the door and let them move into your house. You'd better serve them well first."

"And please share your supplies with us, we're all almost out of food."

"Yes, I saw them carrying big bags of food home before."

People in the hallway were having all sorts of opinions.

Bai Tang was so angry at their shameless words that she almost laughed.

Bai Tang retorted directly to them: "Are you all just bored and have nothing better to do?"

We bought this house with our own money, why should we let you live here?

Don't try to talk to me about morality. What kind of world is this? Don't try to morally blackmail us; we don't buy into that.

If you have any morals, why don't you invite people to stay at your home? If you have any morals, why don't you share your family's resources with everyone?

Also, her husband sneaked in to break into our place late last night. Who knows what he was thinking? He deserved to get electrocuted.

"If anyone tries to break in again, let me make this clear: we won't be responsible if you get electrocuted again."

"call."

After saying so much in one breath, Bai Tang took a deep breath.

But there are always those troublemakers who won't listen to advice.

Liu Dong, a nerdy guy from the 14th floor, stood up and said indignantly, "You rich people are so vulgar. You have places to live but don't give us any, and you have things but don't share them with us."

Before he could finish speaking, he was shocked by a stun gun that peeked out from under the iron gate.

Almost instantly, the smell of burnt meat wafted out.

Bai Jiyang smiled at the people downstairs and said, "Oh dear, I forgot to adjust the power rate. Sorry, brother."

The others reacted as if they had seen a living Yama.

Liu Dong was immediately knocked to his knees by the electric shock. When the others saw that Bai Tang and his group were really daring to do it, they immediately became quiet and no one dared to make a fuss anymore.

Bai Tang then stepped forward and said, "We installed this gate to protect our safety. You can install it too. Nobody's stopping us now."

Also, we're running low on our own supplies, and we don't have much food left either. Like you, we're waiting for official rescue every day.

We are all the same, there is no difference between us, we are all trapped here.

"You really don't need to keep targeting us. Instead of wasting your time, you'd be better off thinking about how to find some supplies outside."

After hearing Bai Tang's words, some reasonable people said, "What the young lady said makes sense. We've been eating the stored grain for so many days, who would still have any grain left?"

"Yes, yes, why don't we try to find a way to look outside?"

However, some people still wouldn't give up, like the woman who initially came to cause trouble.

"No, they electrocuted my man, so they have to take responsibility."

Lin Fan stood up and retorted, "Sister, your man is practically begging to be electrocuted, and we haven't even questioned him for breaking into the house in the middle of the night."

"How about we have a discussion? If he succeeded in breaking in, that's illegal, it's burglary, and he'd go to jail. We're already being lenient by not causing you any trouble, and you're trying to turn the tables on us? Forget it."

Upon hearing this, the woman's mother-in-law thought her son might go to jail, and she was instantly terrified. She quickly grabbed her daughter-in-law and ran downstairs, no longer daring to ask Bai Tang and the others for compensation.

At this point, the property manager stepped forward and spoke up, saying to everyone with a smile, "Let's all disperse. It's all a misunderstanding. Don't block the entrance to their building."

Even as the crowd dispersed downstairs, some people were still complaining to each other.

"There are a lot of tough guys upstairs."

"That's right, it can shock you without warning, it's really scary."

"Stop talking, I'm going home to figure out what to make for the kids. Sigh, we're really going to run out of food."

"Yes, it's bad enough that there's no water or electricity, but now we're almost out of food too. What do you suggest we do?"

As they talked, they each went home, some even staying in the open space between their houses.

Because the floodwaters kept inundating the upper floors, the lower floors were no longer habitable.

Families who couldn't find a place to stay either lived in cramped stairwells with their belongings or in the open space between two households, barely managing to survive.

After Bai Tang and the others returned home, they prepared for lunch. Bai Tang first went to the kitchen to put out the ingredients for today's meal, and then left the rest to Chef Gu.

Gu Yanxu was taught from a young age that to win a woman's heart, you must first win her stomach, so he honed his culinary skills for Bai Tang.

"Oh dear, we're going to benefit from your sister-in-law's cooking again. The eldest brother's cooking is really delicious."

"Yes, my brother-in-law cooked again."

After hearing this, Bai Tang laughed and said to them, "We're having claypot rice today, hahaha, there's no cooking skill required."

Another dish is roast duck rice, which doesn't require any cooking skills. The roast duck was bought fresh from the hotel and is incredibly fragrant and delicious.

"All Xu Ge needs to do is mix them together. If any of you want to mix your own rice, you can go to the kitchen and do it yourself."

"It's okay, the rice that the boss mixes always tastes good."

Gu Yanxu came out of the kitchen carrying a bowl.

"Don't flatter me too much. Praising me won't make me cook for you separately. Just wait until I cook for Tangtang before you talk about eating my food."

"Wow! This is enough dog food for me, guys."

"Me too."

Gu Yanxu went to the kitchen and brought out another bowl, saying to the four people who were still adding more, "Then you can add more slowly. Tangtang and I will eat first. Come on, Tangtang, have some roast duck."

Bai Tang sat down at the dining table with a happy smile.

"Wuhu! Roast duck, one of my favorite foods."
