Chapter 89 - 89

Chapter 89 Temperature Continues to Rise

In my previous life, along with the extreme heat came various epidemics.

The base has taken several measures to address the sudden rise in temperature, including temporarily prohibiting personnel from entering or leaving the base.

The ice had not yet melted when the temperature was zero degrees Celsius.

If the temperature continues to rise, the thick ice layer will melt, creating ice holes. There's no ice inside the base, so there's no need to worry, but the situation outside the base is uncertain.

...

Bai Tang and the others were discussing the rising temperature in the living room.

Lin Fan's first thought was: "If it gets hot, does that mean we can no longer plant snow fruit?"

As expected, foodies only care about food.

Bai Tang then told them, "Where do you think the snow we collected when we left the base a while ago is?"

Bai Jiyang: "Sister, are all those snowdrifts in your spatial dimension?"

Lin Zhou said to him, "Isn't that obvious? Your sister-in-law must have kept them all in her space."

Bai Tang: "We collected so much snow in the space to simulate a snowy environment, making it easier to continue planting snow fruit."

Raymond Lam was the first to flatter her: "My goodness, my sister-in-law was so insightful!"

Lin Fan chimed in, "Brother Feng, why did you steal my lines!"

Lin Feng looked smug: "The first to strike wins, so I'll praise you first this time!"

Bai Tang continued, "We won't go out for the next few days to avoid falling into an ice hole."

As they were talking, the outside temperature had risen to ten degrees Celsius by noon, from breakfast time.

As temperatures continue to rise, the snow piled up along the roadside in the base has begun to melt slowly.

After Bai Tang and the others finished lunch, they checked the thermometer again and the temperature had risen to twenty-five or twenty-six degrees Celsius. The ice and snow outside were melting even faster.

Bai Tang and the others experienced the transition from thick cotton-padded clothes in the morning to short sleeves at noon.

It was snowing just a few days ago, but now much of the snow on the roads has melted.

Inside the base, the snow on the roadside had melted into water, which flowed into the ground through drainage channels. Fortunately, the base was originally a tourist attraction, and the drainage system was well done, so it did not cause flooding.

Looking outside the base, the thick ice layer is gradually melting. The snow beneath the ice is melting first, forming flowing undercurrents and numerous ice holes.

Moreover, many of the small bases that survive outside are built on ice, and once the ice and snow melt, their habitats become precarious.

If anyone is walking on the ice at this time, they could accidentally fall into an ice hole.

The people inside the base were cheering with joy. The temperature had finally risen, and they would no longer be freezing, nor would their hands and feet get frostbite.

Finally, we no longer have to worry about freezing to death in the snow. When the extreme cold first arrived, many people froze to death on cold nights.

But they were a little too optimistic; the temperature had indeed risen, but it kept rising.

Moreover, extreme heat also brings disease outbreaks; sudden high temperatures can easily lead to outbreaks of disease in many places.

Bai Tang was most worried about this, because she had seen what it looked like when people were infected with the plague; their bodies would rot and stink.

Moreover, the conditions for those who contract the disease are even more dire under high temperatures.

Bai Tang couldn't very well go up to them and tell them directly that high temperatures could bring disease, so all she could do now was hope that the base would take this temperature rise seriously.

There were some experienced people in the base who knew that a major epidemic would follow a major disaster, and they reminded their friends to boil the water before drinking it.

The base issued another notice regarding the disposal of trash from daily conversations, which had previously been randomly piled up in designated areas.

Now the base has installed an incinerator to process the garbage, otherwise the garbage dump is most likely to breed bacteria under high temperature conditions.

Bai Tang and the others didn't go out all day, staying at home obediently, packing up all the things in the house that were related to winter, and letting Bai Tang put them into her space.

Switching to all summer items feels like summer has arrived overnight.

Because by the time they ate dinner in the evening, the outside temperature had risen to 30 degrees Celsius.

That night, as everyone went to sleep, they heard the sound of the snow outside dripping and melting, which kept many people awake.

Firstly, the sudden rise in temperature to this level seems very abnormal; secondly, everyone is worried that this temperature rise might be similar to the previous extreme heat.

Their concerns were valid; for the next period of time, the outside temperature would continue to soar to fifty or sixty degrees Celsius before finally stopping.

With temperatures reaching 50-60 degrees Celsius and the sun shining, while it's not to the point where you can't go outside, spending too much time outdoors can easily lead to heatstroke.

The day after the temperature rose rapidly, Bai Tang and the others started using the ice maker.

The canned food was so hot it kept sticking out its tongue, so Bai Tang made it a piece of ice to cool it down.

On the second day after the temperature rose, the daytime temperature reached 40 degrees Celsius.

Bai Tang sat on the sofa in the living room, fanning herself as she spoke:

"I hate summer the most. I'm afraid of the heat but not the cold."

Gu Yanxu chimed in, "Indeed, we can add clothes when it's cold, but there's really nothing we can do about the heat right now, since the base hasn't installed air conditioning."

Lin Fan and the others drank their iced beverages: "This weather is so unpredictable. It suddenly went from freezing cold to scorching hot. Our bodies are really having a hard time adjusting."

Bai Tang: "These are minor issues. We'll get used to the heat in a few days. Don't underestimate our ability to adapt to nature."

Bai Tang is right; the human body adapts to extreme cold very quickly.

For the next week, the outdoor temperature remained between 30 and 50 degrees Celsius.

Although it is said that Rome wasn't built in a day, most of the ice and snow outside has already melted due to the high temperatures.

The base still encourages everyone to stay within the base for the time being to avoid any accidents.

At the same time, we urge everyone to pay attention to hygiene to avoid the outbreak of disease.

From extreme cold to extreme heat, the people in the base have learned to follow the base's commands, so no one was injured at the base during this extreme heat event.

People in some small bases outside, whose bases were located on the ice, found it difficult to move around due to the sudden rise in temperature.

Some smaller bases located near the main base risked wading across the potentially collapsing ice to reach the Shengshi base in search of a way to survive.

The base also provides certain assistance to these people, especially those who are currently entering the base due to the extreme heat.

The requirements for entering the base have not been raised; it is still required that each person hand over ten kilograms of supplies.

Nor were the requirements lowered, otherwise it would easily provoke public anger within the base.

However, after more than a year of extreme cold, the people in those small bases outside did not have much food or supplies.

At this point, some people tried to take advantage of the situation and rushed into the base.
