Chapter 100 - 100

Chapter 100 Burning

Many people got off the bus with their own spare alcohol and stood outside, waiting for Chen Weiliang to come and collect it.

Bai Tang and his group naturally brought out a lot of alcohol, and Bai Tang even brought out a case of baijiu (Chinese liquor).

When Chen Weiliang and his men arrived at Bai Tang's team, they were all stunned.

For the average person, who would carry a case of liquor with them when they go out?

Bai Tang had already thought of her words: "This is for my grandfather. He's at the base in Beijing. We're going to visit him. He likes baijiu, so we prepared a case."

Anyway, Chen Weiliang didn't know if they were going to pick someone up or to find someone.

We can only use Grandpa's name for now. In the early hours of the morning, Grandpa Gu was sleeping when he dreamed that someone was talking about him.

Chen Weiliang didn't delve into the matter further; he was eager to resolve the immediate trouble.

After thanking Bai Tang, they walked to the back of the line.

Bai Tang and his group are only responsible for providing fuel; the task of burning the mutated plants will be handled by the people Chen Weiliang brought.

After collecting the alcohol, Chen Weiliang led his men to spread it.

Then he said into the walkie-talkie, "We might not be able to leave for a while, everyone back the car up a bit."

Starting from the last car, they reversed, and Bai Tang and the others got in.

After retreating about 500 meters, Chen Weiliang arranged for someone to light the fuse.

A person walked over, lit the fuse, and ran back quickly.

After the man ran back, the fuse quickly burned onto the mutated plant that had been sprinkled with alcohol.

In an instant, a raging fire broke out in front of them, and the crackling sound could be heard from a great distance.

Flames shot into the sky, illuminating the darkness.

The fire only burned for a little over half an hour, but no one dared to go forward because the residual heat should have been quite high.

The entire convoy waited quietly for another half hour before Chen Weiliang sent someone to check the road conditions.

The people sent out returned quickly and reported that the mutated plants blocking the road had been burned and the road was passable.

After nearly two hours of struggling, the road ahead was finally clear, and the sky began to lighten.

Everyone quickly got into the car, and it started moving slowly forward from the front.

The road became even more difficult to traverse after the fire, a arduous journey through the ashes of mutated plants.

Bai Tang estimated that the road blocked by these mutated plants was about five or six hundred meters long.

No wonder Chen Weiliang didn't choose to take a detour; after burning those mutated plants, the highway was definitely easier to travel on than the roads in the villages below.

After the train departed again, Bai Tang told Gu Yanxu to rest for a while longer.

It wasn't until the sun had fully risen that it was 6:30 in the morning; the summer sun rises very early.

Although it is currently the hottest time of year and no one would consider it summer, Bai Tang is used to recording the date.

Around 7 a.m., the convoy stopped to rest for half an hour.

Bai Tang also woke up Gu Yanxu, and then spoke to Bai Jiyang and Lin Fan on the walkie-talkie.

"You four come over here too, let's eat together in the RV."

"The early bird catches the worm; a good breakfast gives you energy and vitality for the rest of the day."

Upon hearing Bai Tang's words, the two immediately woke up the other two.

Bai Tang's entire team ate in the RV. Bai Tang prepared tea eggs, baked flatbread, steamed buns, and various kinds of porridge.

Breakfast shouldn't be too greasy, otherwise you might get carsick and vomit while driving, which would be difficult to handle.

After breakfast, the group sat on the sofa in the RV. Bai Tang gave them some oranges to help them stay alert on the road.

Bai Tang carefully calculated how far they had traveled in the 24 hours they had been out.

During their rest break, they covered 200 kilometers of the 1,000-kilometer journey.

At this rate, they estimate it will take them a full five days to reach the Beijing base.

And this is under the condition that no other special circumstances are encountered.

The journey can be tough, so getting enough rest is especially important.

After breakfast and a rest, the convoy set off again.

At midday when the sun was at its hottest, the convoy continued searching for abandoned service areas to rest.

We set off again when the sun was about to set.

The next few days followed the same pattern, and we didn't encounter any major obstacles along the way.

Occasionally, there are some difficult sections of the road, so they will slow down a little, and then speed up again to make up for the wasted time.

The different teams in the convoy took turns driving, and Bai Tang and his group did the same.

They drove for a whole week to cover a distance of 1,000 kilometers.

Under normal circumstances, a journey of 1,000 kilometers can be completed in a maximum of twelve hours if driven day and night.

However, it took them a full five days to reach the vicinity of Beijing.

When the convoy entered Beijing, everyone could finally relax a little.

When Chen Weiliang first entered Beijing, he said on the walkie-talkie:

"Let's rest here for ten minutes before continuing to drive."

Everyone was excited. Some were excited because they were finally going to see their families, while others were excited because they had finally arrived at their destination. They were filled with mixed emotions.

Just then, Bai Tang's walkie-talkie rang: "Captain Bai, where do you go to find people when you get to the Beijing base?"

It was Zhao Lei's voice. He had been chatting with them on the way.

Bai Tang said, "Let's go to the base center first and ask where my family lives. You can go and ask them too."

Bai Tang only learned on the way that the wife and child Zhao Lei was looking for was actually Sister Zhou.

Bai Tang remembered that Sister Zhou and her two sons lived in a shantytown in the Beijing base.

However, Bai Tang did not tell Zhao Lei this news first, because many things have changed when you start over.

Therefore, she was unsure whether Sister Zhou and her child were still at the Beijing base.

If we rashly tell Zhao Lei, and we fail to find the person, it will only disappoint him more.

Zhao Lei said, "Since they didn't answer my call, I'll go to the base center and ask them if they registered here."

Bai Tang said, "It's okay. We'll ask your family for you when we meet them."

Zhao Lei said dejectedly, "Although the chances are slim, I'll still keep looking."

Bai Tang replied, "Don't worry, we'll definitely find it."

After the convoy had rested, Chen Weiliang spoke again into the walkie-talkie:

"We're getting ready to get in the car and continue our journey. We'll be at the Beijing base in about 20 kilometers."

The atmosphere among everyone instantly became lively; it was finally almost here.

Along the way, the city of Beijing was devastated. Buildings, soaked by rain and then exposed to the scorching sun, were on the verge of collapse.

The Kyoto base is located in the north of Kyoto, and like the Shengshi base, it is nestled against the mountains and beside the water.

The original sites were all large tourist attractions, which is why they could be used as large-scale shelter bases.

Any place smaller than that wouldn't be able to accommodate so many people.

The convoy quickly arrived near the Beijing base, where the base's gate was already in sight.
