Chapter 81 A Minor Upgrade to the Space
Seeing Ni Menglu leave, Ji Mu seemed to remember something and gestured to Yu Miaomiao to wait for him a while.
He turned and ran towards the temporary shed. A moment later, he covered the backpack in his arms with his clothes and ran quickly towards the back gate.
This young man really isn't planning on leaving himself a way out; he's packing his bags and running away.
"Where's Raymond? Didn't you say you succeeded?"
When Ji Mu got closer and didn't see the dog, his face fell. He thought to himself, "I've probably run into another bad guy trying to fool a child."
"We've succeeded. How about we talk about it somewhere else? We shouldn't stay here any longer."
The two were standing just over three meters away from the Ni family villa, and anyone looking over the wall could easily spot them.
So Ji Mu slowly followed behind Yu Miaomiao. Seeing this, Yu Miaomiao skillfully took out an eye mask from her space, and Ji Mu skillfully put on the eye mask as well.
The streetlights flickered dimly, casting long, thin shadows of the two. Hearing footsteps in the distance, Yu Miaomiao checked that her blindfold was on properly before pulling Ji Mu into the space.
Yu Miaomiao picked up Raymond and gently placed him in Ji Mu's hands. The puppy licked its owner with its wet little tongue.
"Raymond, it really is Raymond." Although you couldn't see the boy's eyes, you could tell how happy he was from the wide grin on his face.
Ji Mu hugged the dog and rubbed his face against it. The dog then licked his nose twice.
However, the dog really didn't make a sound, and Yu Miaomiao noticed that she hadn't heard the dog bark once in all this time.
But hearing what the dog really thinks makes me happy too.
"Our deal is done. My task is complete, and you should now fulfill your promise."
Ji Mu held the dog in one arm and reached into his neck with the other to pull out the small meteorite. He held it in his hand with great reluctance, but finally reached out in the direction where Yu Miaomiao had spoken.
"You're off-center, I'm over here." Yu Miaomiao turned Ji Mu around and took the small meteorite from his hand.
When she held it in her hand and examined it closely, the little stone seemed to be summoned and floated away from Yu Miaomiao's palm.
It floated above the spring water and began to sway and revolve around the main stone.
During the last space upgrade, Yu Miaomiao was outside the space; she only noticed the increased size after entering.
This time, Yu Miaomiao witnessed a small upgrade of the space directly while inside.
A light screen appeared in front of Yu Miaomiao, displaying the situation outside the space in real time.
It was precisely the visualization that Yu Miaomiao had been longing for that made the space upgrades so appealing to her.
The screen was showing Ni Menglu walking by with several men in black suits, as if they were looking for something.
"Look carefully, he's with a dog, he can't have gone far." The conversation between Ni Menglu and the man in black could be clearly heard from the light screen.
At this moment, Ji Mu, who was wearing an eye mask and engrossed in playing with his dog, suddenly jolted, paused for half a second, and then took off running... He didn't even bother to take off the eye mask, and started performing a ghost wall in front of Yu Miaomiao in the dark.
"Stop!" Yu Miaomiao grabbed Ji Mu's collar, forcing him to stop. "We're safe. They can't see us."
After seeing the group leave, Yu Miaomiao pulled Ji Mu out of the spatial dimension and quickly ran back to her villa.
Once they reached the passageway outside their backyard, they removed the blindfold from the boy's face and looked closely at the blond, blue-eyed little boy, finding him indeed adorable.
His clear, bright blue eyes reflected the walls on either side of the passageway. With his high nose and deep features, he was sure to grow up to be a stunningly handsome foreign man who could bring ruin to a country.
However, being handsome can't put food on the table.
Their deal is over.
"Alright, from now on, good luck to you. Good luck."
Before the little boy could react, Yu Miaomiao went back into the yard and locked the back door.
Yu Miaomiao wouldn't take him in just because he's good-looking; in this apocalyptic world, everyone's doing charity work.
This child is indeed quite pitiful, but she won't take him in just because she feels sorry for one person. If she felt sorry for every one she saw, she might as well open a shelter.
Back at the villa, she used her mental energy to probe out from the window and discovered that the little boy had left. After taking a few steps, he turned back and, imitating Yu Miaomiao, climbed over the wall of Yu Miaomiao's villa.
His learning ability is amazing.
They just don't learn anything good.
The dog obediently perched on Ji Mu's shoulder, and the two of them quietly sat down in the corner of their backyard.
I wanted to chase them away, but then I thought it wouldn't hurt.
Anyway, since we're not going to feed or give him any drinks, the villa across the street will probably find out he's missing today. The search will be the most intense tonight, so let him stay for the night and kick him out tomorrow.
Where did that person come from?
Lu An also walked to the window. Xu Nanwei was alright and was about to come over to tell Yu Miaomiao when he happened to see the boy in the corner.
"It's a long story." Yu Miaomiao withdrew her spiritual power and recounted the events to Lu An.
"You said he has illusion-based superpowers. Is it possible for him to help us get some information out of Li Yi?"
After hearing the whole story, Lu An felt that the little boy was still somewhat useful.
"I should be able to handle Li Yi's matter myself. It's not appropriate to use him. He's not one of our team members. Don't forget, this is a classified mission."
"What you said makes sense. Perhaps I'm being a little too compassionate."
As fellow dog owners in a foreign land, Lu An empathized with Ji Mu's plight. He was adrift in a strange city, relying solely on his dog, only to be threatened with the dog's existence...
"An'an, it's not just you. I feel like I've been catching mice in the dark. I've been living too peacefully lately and forgot that this is a cannibalistic apocalypse."
Xu Nanwei snapped out of her hallucination and came out of the bedroom. She saw Yu Miaomiao and Lu An talking by the window, rushed over and hugged them, looked up at them, and her red and swollen eyes were full of grievance.
"It feels like I had a very long nightmare, it was terrifying."
Both of them patted Xu Nanwei's head, saying, "It's all in the past. Dreams are always the opposite of reality."
"Who is that person? What is he doing in our yard? Is he a bad guy? Should Weiwei go and teach him a lesson?"
Xu Nanwei also saw Ji Mu sitting in the corner playing with the dog through the window.
"No need, I'll get rid of him tomorrow. Let's ignore him. Nanwei, don't you have a night school class tonight? It's almost time, get ready and go to class."
"Mmm." The little girl skipped back to her room to get her schoolbag.
In order not to interfere with the team's usual tasks, and to help Yu Miaomiao and Lu An grow vegetables and do housework, Xu Nanwei chose mostly night school courses.
Of course, there was also a very important reason: she wanted to avoid Ni Menglu. The girl was not afraid of trouble, and she knew Yu Miaomiao and Lu An's personalities, but she did not want to cause trouble for her two older sisters.
Therefore, she chose to avoid Ni Menglu whenever possible.
