Chapter 106 - 106

Chapter 106 Commercial Street

From its initial rudimentary form to its current unprecedented prosperity, the underground city's commercial street has given the underground city a utopian feel.

Their hair hadn't been trimmed in a long time, and it had gotten a bit tacky, so we decided to give it a thorough cleaning today. We'd alter the little ones' clothes and get their hair properly trimmed.

Although Yu Miaomiao hadn't cut her hair in a long time, her face still exuded a captivating charm even with a edgy hairstyle. Her beautiful bone structure meant that no hairstyle could diminish her beauty.

Lu An casually tousled his hair, which looked like it had been chewed by a dog, yet it was still the kind of hairstyle that would charm a lot of young ladies. When the four of them appeared at the entrance of the underground city's commercial street, they naturally attracted a lot of attention.

"Look at that woman, she has fair skin and looks like she lives in a villa area. It's been so long since we brothers have had money to take a bath."

"Shut up already. You think you can just point fingers at those people in the villa area? What if they're kept by some big shot? You think you can gouge your eyes out if you even look at them twice?"

Lately, whenever they go out, they feel like they're being watched from all sides, and they're almost immune to these kinds of vulgarities.

However, just because she's gotten used to it doesn't mean she accepts this kind of stupidity that denigrates women.

Before she could make a move, Ji Mu quickly walked up to the two of them and, while probing the prices of the items at their stalls, cast illusion-based superpowers on them.

The four of them didn't stop and continued walking deeper into the commercial street. The two lewd men behind them were already deeply affected by the hallucinations and soon started fighting.

They didn't have time to waste here. There was a tailor shop not far from the entrance of the commercial street. The stall owner was an elderly woman in her sixties, but her skills were excellent. Normally, she and Lu An could mend clothes themselves if they were torn, but altering adult clothes to children's sizes required a professional. She felt it was not a waste to pay for her skills.

"Grandpa, we have two sets of clothes that need to be altered to fit our two children."

After saying that, Yu Miaomiao pushed Weiwei and Ji Mu in front of the old man.

The old man carefully sewed the last stitch of the fabric in his hand, then tightened the thread, meticulously smoothed the fabric, and inspected it before pushing up his reading glasses and taking the fabric from Yu Miaomiao's hand.

"We can change the size, but the construction period may be delayed by a few days." Behind the old man, a woman holding a child answered for him. The woman had a sallow complexion and a thin figure, clearly suffering from long-term malnutrition, but her hair was thick and black, suggesting that she had lived a relatively comfortable life before the apocalypse.

We are still in the early stages of the apocalypse. In another year, apart from wealthy ladies who will still have long, flowing hair, ordinary people will have dry, withered hair.

"Is there some difficulty?" Yu Miaomiao asked, puzzled. She looked at the remaining orders on the stall, which seemed to be few and far between. Most of them were for mending. In this post-apocalyptic situation, it was difficult to even solve the problem of food and clothing. There were almost no people who came to spend money to alter their clothes.

"You've misunderstood. My mother-in-law is really unwell. My husband came back from the construction site this afternoon, and we were going to take her to the hospital to get checked out."

Upon hearing that he had returned from the construction site, Yu Miaomiao immediately understood. The underground city had recruited a group of people to dig tunnels around the city, presumably to create more escape exits. This would increase the chances of survival should the underground city collapse.

These workers earn twice as much as other jobs in the dungeon, but in return, they only get one day off a month.

The woman and the old woman were both very thin, but the baby in their arms had a rosy and radiant complexion. It seemed that the whole family was saving every penny to ensure that the child could eat well.

The timing of the mission is uncertain. Even if you accept the mission, there's no need to rush to set off immediately. The timeframe for missions of this difficulty is usually more than enough.

So Yu Miaomiao simply asked the old man to take the measurements for the two little ones first, and to leave the two sets of clothes that needed alterations here for now. They could come back to the old man's stall a week later to pick them up.

That's how it is in most tailor shops; apart from very easy mending jobs, no one will sit there and wait.

"Okay, thank you for your understanding." The woman took the clothes from the old man's hands, turned around and held up a small piece of fabric sewn with pink flowers. "This is our family's pick-up tag. You can use this to pick up your clothes later."

"Okay." Yu Miaomiao readily accepted the small piece of cloth.

"Come to me, child." The old man sat on the broken rattan chair and beckoned to Xu Nanwei and Ji Mu with a kind face. Only then did Yu Miaomiao realize that the old man was not wearing shoes and that the front half of his feet had already shown signs of rotting.

These are undoubtedly symptoms of diabetes. The toes are ulcerated and blackened. It's so serious that amputation is definitely necessary, otherwise it will get worse and endanger the patient's life.

Moreover, if blood sugar is not controlled, it cannot be cured.

This disease of affluence, however, occurred in a withered old man, and even Yu Miaomiao and the others couldn't bear to look away.

A rope always breaks at its thinnest point, and misfortune always befalls those with a hard life.

Especially in this apocalyptic world, insulin must be incredibly expensive. How could a family like theirs afford it? Although Yu Miaomiao had these medicines stored in her space, she was not a savior. She knew the saying, "Possessing a treasure is a crime."

They quietly took their measurements and then continued looking for a hair salon stall on the commercial street as planned.

"Miaomiao, how about that barber stall?" Lu An pointed to the small barber stall that was still barely operating under the dilapidated sign. Calling it a stall was a bit of a stretch; it consisted of just a chair and a boss shouting energetically, "Come on, come get a haircut! You'll be stuffed and look seventeen or eighteen years younger!" His shouts broke the somewhat dull atmosphere.

Yu Miaomiao raised her eyebrows slightly, withdrew her gaze, and walked towards the stall. Before they even got close, the owner quickly stepped forward and led them to his stall, "What kind of hairstyle would you like to get? We can do any style here, whether it's a punk or an American-style spiky, there's nothing Tony can't do if you can imagine it."

The boss had a businessman's smile on his wrinkled face, but his eyes revealed his delight at the prospect of making a fortune with the arrival of a big client.

But his smile quickly faded. All four of them refused to get their hair styled, only asking for a short cut. They had also inquired about the prices for haircuts in the area beforehand. They sat in their chairs with their eyes closed, seemingly resting. When Tony, the barber, tried to chat a bit more, he was met with a deadly glare, and the air around him seemed to grow colder. So he didn't dare to say another word.

He could tell that all four of them were superhumans, especially the two girls in their early twenties. Their eyes were resolute and cold, clearly indicating that they had experienced life and death and were ruthless masters. He couldn't afford to offend them, nor did he want to.

However, even though they didn't get their hair styled, receiving four orders in one day was still a large order.
