Chapter 25 - Chapter-24 : The School Strikes Back

The silence after our first strike didn't last long. Hallways warped, walls creaking as if stretching and breathing. Noorwood High was awake—and angry.

"Uh… I don't like this sound," Felix whispered, gripping his broomstick. "That's… definitely not normal creaking."

Lara spun her chair dramatically. "Step one: epic suspense! Step two: panic stylishly! Step three: optional snacks while running for your life!"

Sarah's eyes narrowed, cube glowing faintly. "No time for jokes. The school is adapting. The trap bought us time, but it won't stop the shadows from learning."

Kai scanned the warped hallways. "The layout is changing. Side passages, doors… they're shifting. The shadows will approach from unexpected angles. Everyone, stay alert and stick to the plan—but be ready to improvise."

Mira's hands glowed. "I can manage some of the shadows, but their numbers are increasing. They've learned to anticipate certain traps… and they'll test us directly."

Suddenly, the shadows surged from the walls, smaller but faster, twisting into shapes we hadn't seen before. The faceless creature appeared last, taller and more menacing, moving with intent.

"Positions!" Sarah shouted.

Chloe and Liam hurried to mark new zones on the floor. Emily and Jordan flanked the sides, ready to redirect any escaping shadows.

Lara immediately ran forward. "Step four: epic distraction! Step five: absurd humor! Step six: I'm fabulous!"

Felix muttered, "Step seven: survive this nightmare."

The shadows attacked faster than before, bending reality as they lunged. Mira's glow flared, freezing them briefly, while Sarah's cube pulsed, redirecting the energy.

The faceless creature roared, extending its limbs toward us. But this time, it was smarter, anticipating our moves and forcing us to adjust on the fly.

Kai barked orders. "Lara, hold the left flank! Felix, right! Everyone else, focus on timing and coordination!"

Lara waved her chair. "Why don't skeletons fight each other? Because they don't have the guts! Ha!"

Even with her absurd jokes, the shadows hesitated slightly. Mira seized the opportunity, guiding the faceless creature into a temporary frozen zone.

Emily and Jordan pushed smaller shadows into the marked areas, while Chloe and Liam adjusted symbols to trap the new shapes.

I ran alongside, heart pounding. "This is insane… and somehow… working?"

Sarah clenched the cube. "The school adapts, but so do we. Keep pushing!"

The shadows shrieked, twisting violently, but the trap held—at least for a few moments.

Lara collapsed dramatically, chair held high. "Step eight: victory… kinda! Step nine: snacks… maybe after surviving!"

Felix groaned. "Step ten: I need therapy."

Mira's glow dimmed slightly, exhaustion visible. "We survived this wave, but it's learning faster. The faceless creature is studying us… and the school itself is alive. The next encounter… will be worse."

Kai nodded. "Then we prepare again. We adapt, we plan, and we stay alive. Noorwood High isn't finished with us. Not by a long shot."

I swallowed, realizing the reality of what we were facing. The school wasn't just haunted—it was smart, alive, and terrifyingly relentless.

But somehow… somehow, we were still standing.
