Chapter 45 - Chapter-44 : Unexpected Backfire

The gym hummed with victory, but the celebration was short-lived. Shadows shifted in corners, wriggling like snakes, as if whispering secrets to each other. The first permanent trap held—for now—but something felt… off.

Sarah held the cube tightly. "Stay alert. The creature is adapting faster than we predicted. We can't assume this victory is permanent."

Jonah's glow flickered nervously. "I… I think I sense a loophole. The creature isn't trapped entirely—it's redirecting some scouts through hidden energy flows I didn't detect before."

Mira's glow pulsed, linking with him. "Then we need to stabilize those flows quickly. But Jonah… don't panic. Focus, or the trap could collapse."

Lara immediately spun her chair, arms wildly flailing. "Step one: heroic chaos alert! Step two: comedic scrambling! Step three: snacks… postponed indefinitely!"

Felix groaned, picking up stray chairs. "Step four: why is my life just constant panic?"

The shadows surged unexpectedly, scouts darting through invisible corridors and bypassing the trap's barriers. Jonah's glow faltered. "No! Too fast! I can't… keep up!"

Mira flared, holding his energy steady. "Jonah, you can! Just follow my rhythm!"

Lara spun dramatically, chair nearly toppling. "Step five: chaos improvisation! Step six: comedic brilliance! Step seven: snacks… never, apparently!"

Felix swung his broomstick, accidentally knocking two scouts into a trap. "I… did it again?!"

Emily shouted, "Everyone, adjust positions! Use fallback zones!"

Chloe pointed toward the west wing. "Those scouts are exploiting weak energy channels! Block them before they escape!"

Jonah's glow pulsed violently as he concentrated, sweat beading on his forehead. "I… I can force them back… just… need a second…"

Mira flared her light, stabilizing the flow. Jonah's guidance synchronized with hers, and the rogue scouts twisted back toward the trap zones. The cube pulsed, energy surging, solidifying the barriers.

Sarah shouted, "Hold it! Do not let them break free!"

The gym shook violently as the faceless creature roared from beyond the walls. Its scouts writhed, trapped, but its influence pulsed through the school, testing every weakness we hadn't detected.

Lara flailed dramatically, shouting jokes at the shadows. "Step eight: comedic chaos assault! Step nine: accidental heroics! Step ten: snacks… maybe never, but morale still matters!"

Felix muttered, "Step eleven: sanity… optional, still optional!"

Finally, the rogue scouts were redirected, trapped once again. Jonah collapsed onto the floor, glowing faintly, exhausted. Mira hovered beside him, keeping his energy steady.

Sarah clenched the cube. "The trap worked… but only barely. The creature is learning, adapting… and exploiting hidden flows. This fight is far from over."

I glanced at the team. Chaos, courage, accidental brilliance, and sheer determination had held the line—but Noorwood High's secrets were deeper than we imagined.

The next wave was coming… and it would be worse.
