Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Rebirth Amidst the Wreckage

[Fear is not merely an emotion. It is a metallic tang that coats your throat, a harsh scent of brine that pierces the very walls of your lungs.]

I opened my eyes—or at least, I tried to. My eyelids felt as heavy as molten lead, sealed shut by exhaustion.

The first thing that greeted me wasn't light, but a terrifying sound: CRACK! The agonizing groan of wood splintering under immense pressure. I felt the bite of freezing saltwater stinging my ankles, rising steadily until it swirled around my waist.

I wasn't in my room. I wasn't in Tokyo.

I tried to inhale, but what entered my chest was wood dust mingled with salty sea spray. "Cough! Cough!" My body trembled, not just from the biting cold, but from the sheer shock of sudden consciousness.

I looked around; the space was dark, cramped, and filled with the stench of rot emanating from damp timber. I was inside a large wooden crate—or rather, what remained of a shipwreck that was once the pride of the seas, now destined to be a grave at the bottom of the ocean.

A faint blue screen floated before my eyes, translucent enough to dance with the flickering movement of the water. "System?" I muttered, my voice emerging as nothing more than the hiss of a defeated viper.

There was no time for philosophical questions. The water had reached my chest, and the pressure in my ears began to mount as if someone were driving needles into my eardrums.

I shoved against the wooden lid above me with every ounce of strength I possessed. The muscles of this body—smaller and thinner than I remembered—screamed in agony. "Move... move, damn it!"

With one final, desperate heave, the wood snapped. I thrust my head out, gasping for a single atom of oxygen amidst the chaos. The ship's hold was a scene of rapid inundation. Barrels floated and collided with the walls, and ropes coiled around pillars like dead black snakes.

"Hey! You there! How are you still alive, you little rat?"

My blood froze. I turned slowly, nearly snapping my neck in surprise. Behind a pile of drifting crates stood a massive man, his tattered shirt revealing a chest scarred by old battles and a faded anchor tattoo on his shoulder. There wasn't a shred of mercy in his eyes; instead, he gripped a long dagger that glinted with a cold, silver light.

"No time to fight. The ship is sinking, can't you see?" I said, struggling to stand on a slanting floor slick with oil and seawater.

"Sinking? Hahaha! The ship won't sink with me, but it'll make a fine coffin for you." He lunged at me with a savage cry.

In that heartbeat, everything froze. I felt my heart thumping in my ears: Thump... Thump... Thump.

Yes! I screamed in my mind.

Suddenly, the pirate's movement turned into a slow-motion cinematic shot. I could see the beads of sweat flying from his thick forehead. I ducked instinctively, feeling the chill of the blade pass mere millimeters above my hair.

I used his massive momentum against him. I planted my foot behind his ankle and shoved with all my weight toward the rising water. SPLASH! He plummeted into the darkness.

I didn't wait to see the end; I scrambled up the wooden ladder leading to the deck like a madman, my fingernails digging into the hard wood until they bled.

As I reached the deck, the cold air slapped my face like an iron palm. But what I saw made my heart stop for a moment.

The sky wasn't blue; it was a fiery purple, scorched by cannon fire. A massive ship with a black sail—depicting a skull with a shattered lower jaw—was raining cannonballs upon our battered vessel.

"This isn't a dream..." I whispered as a cannonball whizzed directly over my head. "I'm in One Piece... and right now, I'm just cannon fodder."

[Objective: Survive and reach "Loguetown" Island.]

The deck was a theater of death. CRASH! The main mast snapped and fell like a defeated giant.

"You scum!" A roar shook the ship. I looked up. On the command deck stood a man in a long red coat, gripping a broadsword dripping with fresh, crimson blood.

"You... the boy who escaped the brig?" Baraka suddenly turned to me. "You look different... where did that pathetic fear in your eyes go?"

"It died with the man who tried to kill me below," I said, trying to steady my voice. "The ship is sinking, Baraka. Even your madness won't stop the ocean's hunger."

Baraka let out a hysterical laugh and raised his sword high. "The ocean doesn't swallow kings, it only swallows the weak. And you... you're just a bug I'm about to squash!"

He lunged at me with terrifying speed. In that moment, I let the "System" take total command.

[Warning: Consuming 20 Energy Points to activate "Instinctive Reflex"]

I spiraled to the left, feeling the heat of the blade. I didn't run. I spotted a small dagger hanging from his leather belt; I drew it with lightning speed and drove it into his thigh.

"AAAAAAGH!" Baraka's scream was lost in the sound of explosions.

I didn't wait. I dashed toward the edge and gripped a thick rope. "Goodbye, Captain," I whispered, throwing my small frame into the abyss.

The fall felt like a nightmare. Then—PLASH!—I hit the freezing seawater. Consciousness began to fade, my lungs screaming for oxygen... but suddenly, a bright light appeared—a golden pulse from the depths.

[Do you wish to merge the "VOID" with your soul? Risk: 100%]

Yes... Damn it... YES! Energy surged into my chest like a lightning strike. My eyes snapped open underwater, but they were no longer human—they had turned a dark purple, centered by a pupil that resembled a black hole.

[Void-Void Fruit (Logia/Paramecia Hybrid Type) successfully merged...]

A wave of black energy exploded from my body, pushing the ocean water away. I shot toward the surface like a rocket.

I breached the waves, gasping frantically, black smoke coiling from my fingertips. I looked back; Baraka's ship had vanished entirely. A short distance away, the lights of "Loguetown" began to glimmer through the thick fog.

The city that witnessed the death of a King was now witnessing the birth of a new Demon.
