Chapter 1 - No Killing Inside

The man stumbled through the gate just as the blade pierced his back.

Blood followed him.

Not a trail—but a flood.

The gate snapped shut behind him with a low hum, sealing the space. The noise echoed across the vast expanse beyond, drawing attention without effort.

Silence fell.

Dozens—no, hundreds—of eyes turned.

The Concourse of the Nexus was never truly quiet. There were always murmurs, distant conversations, the low clink of metal or glass. But now, all of it faded under the weight of something heavier.

The man collapsed to one knee.

Behind him, the air twisted again.

Another gate tore open.

Three figures stepped through.

Armored. Calm. Unhurried.

Killers.

One of them tilted his head slightly, scanning the area. His gaze passed over the gathered crowd, unimpressed.

"…So this is the place," he muttered.

The wounded man tried to crawl.

He didn't make it far.

A boot slammed into his back, pinning him to the ground.

"End of the line."

The blade rose again.

And then—

"Stop."

The word wasn't loud.

It didn't need to be.

It spread.

Not through the air—but through everything.

The pressure changed.

The killer froze.

Not by choice.

His arm trembled mid-motion, as though something unseen held it in place.

A second passed.

Then another.

"…What is this?" he growled.

No one answered him.

Because everyone already knew.

Footsteps echoed—slow, measured.

Unhurried.

From the center of the Concourse, a figure approached.

No aura.

No visible power.

Just presence.

Dark clothing. Calm expression. Eyes that didn't waver.

He stopped a few steps away.

Looked down.

Then spoke.

"No killing inside the Nexus."

The pressure tightened.

The killer's arm dropped—not because he chose to, but because he no longer had the right to hold it up.

"…And if I refuse?" the man asked, voice strained.

For the first time, the Overseer's gaze shifted fully onto him.

It wasn't anger.

It wasn't threat.

It was something worse.

Finality.

"Then you won't exist here anymore."

Silence.

Heavy. Absolute.

The boot lifted from the wounded man.

Not willingly.

The three intruders stepped back.

Slowly.

Carefully.

The Overseer didn't move.

Didn't need to.

After a moment, he spoke again—calm as before.

"If you wish to kill him…"

His eyes flicked toward the Arena Rings in the distance.

"…declare it properly."

A pause.

Then—

"Or leave."

The choice hung in the air.

The entire Nexus watched.

And just like that—

The rules of this place became clear.
