Chapter 35 - Greed is a sin

As a mountain of ash falls and incapacitates Isaac, his whole body falls numb as he watches the man he is fighting start to chant again, and his complexion starts to clear and return to its former colour.

Isaac struggles to move even the slightest inch, as the densely packed ash reminds him of sand piled on top of someone.

As the man approaches Isaac, he looks down at Isaac and scoffs at the helpless boy. He then walks on top of the ash, adding even more force, crushing Isaac. The man raised his hand as sparks formed over his bare hand, and then fell down on Isaac's face.

Isaac does not shy away from this, instead, he reaches out to all the ash around him. In a dome shape, he grabbed it all and pulled it into his true world. The man who was once standing on the ash was launched back due to Isaac's true world touching him again.

Isaac stood up and rapidly cooled his face to prevent any swelling from the burning hand, and fell into thought as the man was launched into a tree not far from Isaac.

'That's weird. Unlike last time, I wasn't repelled, and instead it was Tiy's dad. Maybe it's because I couldn't move, or because that force is weaker now? Also, it felt like that force came from his whole body instead of just the glove. I wonder how it's able to do that?'

Isaac left these thoughts to the side and intended to return to them at a later point, as the man stood back up again. Unlike before, the man had a wide eyed expression that looked similar to a child who had just experienced thought.

The man stood up and shook off some ash that remained in this world, and then spoke.

"That was a true world, wasn't it! I have never seen one up close. How magical it must be to have it. I apologise, but I must take it."

As soon as he finished talking, all the mana in the surroundings began to draw into the glove, and then he spoke.

"Your true world always belonged to me."

Isaac felt like his Insides had vanished as an invisible force that was his true world was ripped out of his body and travelled over to the man.

Isaac immediately ran over with his knife in hand. He knew that gaining a true world would make him feel a wide range of emotions, but what Isaac saw was beyond what he could understand.

Tiy's father fell to his knees, as an immense amount of ash began to pour out of every pore and opening in his body, almost like pus leaking out of him. He was unable to speak due to his mouth constantly being full of ash, as well as something else that was happening behind his eyes.

Seeing the ash, Isaac stopped in his tracks as he watched the man be consumed by the ash made by himself. Unlike what most people would do, Isaac did not run away from the ever flowing ash, but instead walked into it, grabbed the man's arm, and pulled off his glove.

As soon as the glove let Tiy's father's hand, the deep gnawing in Isaac's mind subsided, and a loud thud flew deep into his mind, as his true world returned to him, albeit with a lot less ash inside, and with at least a day's worth of memories, all of them told from the point of view of the man.

Isaac could both feel and tell what had happened when his true world was taken, because the true world was built from the trait of 'Unoriginal' everyone who owns the true world must come up with a way to stop their memories from leaving their body, just like Isaac did, but since the true world was already formed, no way existed.

And since Tiy's father didn't have the same capacity as Isaac for his true world, it began to shrink, and since it was full of ash, it began to pour out at a rapid pace, but now that Isaac has it again, its size returned to normal and ever grew a tiny bit, but was barely noticeable.

Isaac calmed his breathing and began to give CPR to the man, to get all the ash out of his body. After around fifteen minutes of CPR, the man finally began to breathe deeply again.

As soon as the man woke up, he created distance between him and Isaac, and then spoke.

"Who are you, and what happened here!?"

Isaac, using the day's worth of memories, knew a little bit about the inner workings of this man's head, as well as his orders as to why he was here. The whole reason he was he was to keep an eye on Tiy since the other spy who had support magic was killed by her, but Isaac planned to use this to his advantage.

Isaac bowed to the man and spoke.

"It's great to see you awake, my fellow root, but we must hurry. That banshee has begun to fight the windbless with the help of a wanderer from another world."

Isaac was going to take advantage of the missing memories of Tiy's father to act like a support wanderer sent to help him, and also followed him to fight the unknown wanderer, which was really him.

The man looked at himself and then Isaac and then spoke.

"What happened here, and what happened to 'Shnaplenear'?"

Isaac responded after a moment of thought as to what 'Shnaplenear' was.

"My root, the wanderer, had something called a true world, and used your trait to steal it. You began to pour ash out of your whole body. I ran over to you, but the wanderer grabbed my face and burned it. I had no choice but to create distance, and then he took your glove, Shnaplenear."

Tiy's father nodded while spitting out some ash, and Isaac kept speaking.

"After Shnaplenear was removed, the ash stopped, and the man began to smile and ran back to the windbless camp. If I had to guess, I would assume that when your supply of mana was stopped, your trait couldn't work, and this true world of his returned to him."

Tiy's father's eyes lit up and nodded furiously.

"That does make sense, and I thank you, my root, for choosing my life over the fight, but we can't stop we must catch up to him."
