Chapter 1 - The Falling Shadow

[Scene 1: A Dead World]

In a realm devoid of color, where the wind carried nothing but the dust of bone, Ryuk stood at the edge of the abyss. The Shinigami realm was a decaying wasteland, its air heavy with an unbearable, endless boredom.

"It is time," Ryuk rasped, his voice a hollow echo.

He didn't do it out of malice, nor for some grand purpose. He just wanted entertainment. With a casual flip of his wrist, he dropped his black notebook, letting it pierce the thick grey clouds and fall toward the vibrant, chaotic world of the living.

[Scene 2: Genius Amidst the Decay]

Thousands of feet below, inside a prestigious high school in Tokyo, Light Yagami was trapped. The teacher's voice was merely a distant drone, a dull hum in the background of his own thoughts.

"This world… is rotting," Light thought, his cold, intelligent gaze fixed on a crow circling outside the window. He was a perfect student, a genius bound by the suffocating hypocrisy of society. "Every day is the same. The same useless news. The same predictable crimes. Disgusting."

Suddenly, something caught his eye. A black object was falling from the sky, a strange, unnatural shadow in the sunlight. It landed with a soft thud in the schoolyard below. It felt less like a chance event and more like a twisted summons.

[Scene 3: The Cursed Invitation]

After class, Light approached the spot. He was drawn to it. He picked up the book; its cover was made of a smooth, dark leather, surprisingly heavy. Embossed on the front in stark, white letters were the words: "DEATH NOTE".

He opened the first page and read the rules, written in English, the universal language of commerce and, apparently, death.

«The human whose name is written in this note… shall die.»

Light scoffed. "Another chain letter? Or perhaps a pathetic joke from some edge-lord student." Yet, despite his dismissal, he didn't throw it away. He slipped it into his bag. His intellectual curiosity, always his greatest strength and weakness, would not let him ignore it.

[Scene 4: The Sound of Silence]

Back in his room, under the cold glow of his desk lamp, Light stared at the notebook. He was a logical person. He didn't believe in magic. But the what-if was tantalizing.

He turned on the television. A news bulletin broke in: "A criminal named Kurou Otoharada is holding hostages in an elementary school."

Light's hand hesitated, gripping his pen. He wasn't a killer. He was just curious. "I have nothing to lose," he justified. He wrote the name clearly, focusing on the criminal's arrogant face plastered on the screen. He synchronized his watch. 40 seconds.

One… two… ten… The time stretched, each second a heavy hammer beat in his chest. At thirty-nine seconds, nothing happened. "Of course it didn't work," he thought, a wave of relief and disappointment washing over him.

And then, the anchorwoman gasped, her voice trembling. "He has collapsed! The hostages are free! Kurou Otoharada is dead! It… looks like a heart attack."

Light froze. A chill swept through his body. "Is it true? Did I do this? No… it must be a coincidence." He was shaken, but the seed of doubt was planted, and it was watered by the blood of the guilty.

[Scene 5: Confirmation in Crimson]

Later that night, unable to sleep, Light went out for a walk. He needed proof. He saw a gang harassing a girl. The leader was loud, aggressive, a brute named Takuo Shibuimaru.

Light took out the notebook. This time, he didn't write "heart attack." He wrote: "Accidental traffic death." He specified the method.

Less than a minute later, a truck swerved uncontrollably, crushing Takuo in a gruesome, unmistakable accident. The blood was real. The scream was real. The death was real.

A wave of vertigo hit Light, but it quickly transformed. The fear vanished, replaced by an intoxicating, terrifying rush of power. He wasn't a killer. He was a liberator. He stood alone in the dark street, a twisted smile forming on his face.

"I'm the only one who can do this… I will purge this world of its vermin. I will be the God of the New World!"

[Scene 6: The Game Begins]

Five days had passed. Five days of purging the worst criminals from the face of the Earth. Light was in his room, relentlessly writing names, a dark shadow hanging over him.

Suddenly, a coldness settled in the room, a presence that felt older than death itself. Light turned to find a monstrous figure towering behind him. It was Ryuk, his bulbous eyes and eternal grin fixing upon him.

Light (with chilling calmness): "I've been expecting you, Ryuk."

Ryuk (his chuckle shaking the walls): "Oh? Not scared? Humans usually scream."

Light: "I've passed fear. Look at the notebook. I've already started the work."

Ryuk flipped through the pages, filled with row after row of names. He was stunned. Humans were usually weak, terrified by the Death Note. But this boy… "Five days? And you've done this much?" He let out a dark, booming laugh. "Ya-ga-mi Light… It seems I have found the entertainment I was looking for!"
