Chapter 63 - Ch59- Who Is Jasper Jean Mariano ?...

Chapter 59 – Who Is Jasper Jean Mariano?

Morning came slowly through the hospital windows.

Soft sunlight.

Quiet machines.

The smell of antiseptic.

And exhaustion hanging over everyone like a second skin.

Care had fallen asleep sitting in the chair beside the bed.

Lyra was curled awkwardly on another chair nearby, using Rhys's hoodie as a blanket after bullying him into giving it to her.

Rhys himself was sitting on the floor against the wall, half asleep.

Nobody had really rested.

Not properly.

Because every time JJ's heartbeat monitor changed rhythm slightly—

all three of them looked up instantly.

---

The door suddenly opened quietly.

Alex arrived first.

Still wearing yesterday's clothes.

Hair messy.

Eyes sharp with worry.

Cole came seconds later behind him, equally exhausted.

Neither wasted time speaking.

Both immediately looked toward the hospital bed.

And froze.

Because this—

this fragile pale girl—

didn't match the JJ they knew from letters at all.

---

Lyra woke first.

Then immediately stood.

"She's still unconscious."

Alex moved closer slowly.

Looking at JJ carefully.

At the oversized hoodie.

At the Snorlax plush still trapped in her arms.

At the IV attached to her wrist.

And something painful crossed his face briefly.

"…she looks younger than I imagined."

Care finally woke too.

And the moment she remembered reality—

her expression broke again.

---

Cole stayed unusually quiet.

That alone scared everyone.

Because Cole always had something to say.

But now—

he only stared at JJ silently.

Like he was trying to process how someone could travel across the world alone while dying.

---

Then—

the monitor beep changed slightly.

Everyone looked up instantly.

JJ moved weakly.

A small sound leaving her throat.

Care stood immediately.

"JJ?"

Her eyes slowly opened.

Blurred.

Confused.

Lost.

---

The room held its breath.

JJ blinked weakly several times.

Trying to focus.

Her head hurt horribly.

Everything felt wrong.

The lights.

The sounds.

The unfamiliar faces surrounding her.

Panic started rising immediately.

---

"Hey," Care said softly. "Easy. You're safe."

JJ looked at her blankly.

No recognition.

None.

Her breathing started getting uneven.

Alex noticed first.

"She's panicking."

Lyra stepped closer carefully.

"JJ, breathe slowly—"

JJ suddenly pulled slightly away from them.

Weak.

Terrified.

"Who…"

Her voice cracked badly.

"…who are you?"

Silence.

---

Care froze completely.

Lyra blinked once.

Then twice.

Rhys stood up slowly from the floor.

"What?"

JJ looked around desperately now.

Eyes wide.

Fear growing rapidly.

She looked at Alex.

Cole.

Lyra.

Care.

Rhys.

Nothing.

No recognition.

No memory.

Just strangers.

---

"Where am I?" she whispered shakily.

Care's heart dropped instantly.

"JJ…"

JJ flinched immediately at the name.

"…JJ?"

Like even that sounded unfamiliar.

---

Cole's expression darkened slightly.

Not angry.

Terrified.

Alex stepped forward slowly.

"What's your name?"

JJ opened her mouth.

And froze.

Because suddenly—

she didn't know.

Not fully.

Pieces.

Nothing complete.

Panic crashed into her immediately.

Her breathing became sharp.

"I—I…"

Her hands started trembling violently.

"I don't know…"

That sentence shattered the room.

---

Lyra whispered softly:

"No…"

JJ's eyes filled instantly.

Terrified now.

"What's happening to me?"

Nobody answered immediately.

Because nobody knew how.

---

Care carefully reached for the chart beside the bed with shaking hands.

Neurological damage.

Memory instability.

CJD progression.

The words suddenly looked much more horrifying now.

---

JJ looked around again desperately.

Like maybe her memories were hiding somewhere in the room.

Then her eyes landed on the Snorlax plush in her arms.

She held it tighter instinctively.

The only thing that felt remotely familiar.

---

"Please…" she whispered.

Actually begging now.

"…who am I?"

Silence hit again.

Rhys looked away first.

Because somehow hearing that hurt more than seeing her unconscious.

---

Finally—

Care sat beside the bed slowly.

Eyes already wet.

And answered softly:

"Your name is Jasper Jean Mariano."

JJ repeated it weakly.

"…Jasper Jean Mariano…"

Like she was trying on someone else's identity.

---

Then quietly:

"Do… do I know you?"

That broke Lyra immediately.

She turned away fast, covering her mouth.

Alex looked down.

Cole closed his eyes briefly.

And Care—

Care somehow managed to smile softly through tears.

"…yeah," she whispered.

"You do."

---

But JJ only stared at them blankly.

No memories.

No Section E.

No Manila.

No Keifer.

No Percy.

No Aries.

No letters.

No chaos.

No love.

Nothing.

Everything that made Jasper Jean Mariano herself—

was gone.

And somewhere far away in Manila—

people still believed she had simply disappeared.

Not knowing something even crueler had already happened.

The girl they loved no longer remembered they existed at all.

---

The senior doctors called it "a rare neurological progression."

Too clinical.

Too emotionless.

Too clean for something this devastating.

Inside the examination room, JJ sat quietly on the hospital bed while three senior neurologists studied her files carefully.

MRI scans.

Reports.

Symptoms.

Memory collapse.

Behavioral inconsistencies.

Rapid progression.

Words and terms filled the room while JJ sat there like a lost child trapped inside someone else's life.

---

One of the doctors adjusted his glasses gently.

"Can you tell us your full name?"

JJ blinked slowly.

"…Jasper Jean Mariano."

"Good."

Another doctor spoke softly.

"Do you know where you are right now?"

JJ looked around the room uncertainly.

"…hospital."

"Which city?"

Silence.

Long silence.

Then—

"…I don't know."

The pen stopped moving briefly.

---

"What's the last thing you remember?"

JJ frowned slightly.

Trying.

Trying hard.

But every time she reached for something—

pain exploded in her head instead.

"…airport," she whispered weakly.

"Before that?"

Nothing.

No Manila.

No Section E.

No Keifer.

No Percy screaming.

No Aries scolding.

No Angelo silently caring.

Nothing.

Just emptiness.

---

Her breathing became uneven again.

"I—I can't remember…"

One doctor softened slightly.

"That's okay."

But it clearly wasn't okay.

Everyone in that room knew it.

---

JJ looked down at the Snorlax plush in her lap quietly.

"…why does this feel important?"

No one answered immediately.

Because there were too many answers.

And none of them would help her right now.

---

Outside the Room

Outside—

Care finally broke.

The moment the examination room door closed—

something inside her snapped completely.

She walked quickly into her cabin office nearby before collapsing against the desk chair.

Tears came instantly.

Violently.

Uncontrollably.

Because this—

this wasn't the JJ they knew.

---

Their JJ was loud.

Chaotic.

Annoying.

A foodie menace.

A shameless meddler.

The kind of girl who paired people together while ruining everyone's peace simultaneously.

The kind of girl who made emotions feel lighter just by existing.

The kind of girl who wrote letters so alive they practically screamed personality.

And now—

now she sat in a hospital room asking strangers who she was.

---

Care covered her mouth trying to stop the sob breaking out of her chest.

But it only made it worse.

"She forgot everything…"

Her voice cracked horribly.

"She forgot herself…"

---

The cabin door opened quietly.

Cole entered.

He had probably heard everything from outside.

But unlike usual—

he didn't tease her.

Didn't say anything sarcastic.

Didn't try to lighten the mood.

For the first time since anyone met him—

Cole had absolutely no joke left.

---

Care looked up at him through tears.

And that alone broke him a little too.

Because Care almost never cried like this.

Never.

---

"She used to write so much," Care whispered shakily.

"She used to complain about food and Keifer and her stupid chaotic friends and—"

Her voice collapsed again.

"And now she doesn't even know her own name properly…"

Cole crossed the room quietly.

Then without a word—

pulled her gently into his arms.

Care broke immediately against him.

Crying into his chest while holding his shirt tightly like she would collapse otherwise.

And Cole—

usually sarcastic, calm, difficult—

only held her closer silently.

One hand behind her head.

Protective.

Careful.

Like he understood words wouldn't help right now.

---

"She came alone," Care whispered brokenly.

Cole closed his eyes briefly.

Because somehow—

that hurt the most.

---

The Terrace

Meanwhile—

Lyra stood alone on the hospital terrace.

Or at least she tried to be alone.

Wind moved softly around her while Ahmedabad stretched below in endless city lights.

Her hands shook badly.

Not from cold.

From helplessness.

---

"She forgot us…"

The sentence escaped her mouth quietly.

And suddenly—

she started crying too.

Not softly.

Not gracefully.

Completely shattered.

---

Because Lyra remembered every single letter JJ ever sent.

The dramatic storytelling.

The doodles.

The complaints.

The chaos.

The love hidden everywhere between sentences.

JJ had become part of their lives without even physically being there.

And now—

when they finally met her—

she couldn't remember any of them.

---

Lyra covered her face with both hands.

"This is so unfair…"

A voice answered softly behind her.

"Yeah."

Alex.

---

She turned instantly.

Eyes red.

And the moment she saw him—

her composure collapsed fully.

Alex reached her before she could even speak properly.

Lyra buried herself against him immediately.

And Alex held her without hesitation.

Firm.

Safe.

Steady.

---

"She called for Keifer," Lyra whispered shakily against his chest.

Alex's jaw tightened slightly.

Because that somehow made everything crueler.

Somewhere deep inside—

JJ still remembered the feeling of him.

Even if the memories themselves were gone.

---

Alex rested his chin lightly against Lyra's head while she cried quietly in his arms.

And for a long time—

neither moved.

The city lights below blurred softly beneath the night while heartbreak sat silently beside them both.

---

Inside the hospital—

Jasper Jean Mariano was slowly forgetting the world.

And outside—

the people who had just finally found her—

were already grieving her like someone disappearing piece by piece while still breathing.
