His mother was crying.
Rin didn't know what to do with that.
He had imagined finding her countless times, even if he couldn't remember when those imagined moments had started.
In some dreams, she was smiling. In others, she was walking away. Sometimes he could hear her voice but never see her face.
And now she was standing in front of him, alive, looking at him as though she had spent an eternity waiting for this exact moment.
Yet she was crying.
Rin slowly stepped closer.
"Mom?"
Seraphine wiped the tears from her cheeks.
"I'm sorry."
Rin frowned.
"For what?"
"For making you wait so long."
He shook his head.
"I don't remember waiting."
That hurt her more. Her eyes closed.
"That's what hurts the most."
Rin didn't understand.
"Why?"
"Because you shouldn't have forgotten me."
He looked at her quietly.
"You didn't make me forget, did you?"
Seraphine hesitated.
"No."
"Then who did?"
She looked toward the sky.
"The God."
Rin's expression hardened.
