Rin didn't sleep well.
Not because of a nightmare, but because of another memory.
Something much simpler kept him awake. A sentence.
The one you promised.
He stared at the ceiling.
"Who are you?"
Nothing answered. Rin turned onto his side.
"And what did I promise?"
Still nothing. He pulled the blanket over his head.
"This is ridiculous."
A few seconds later, he pushed it away again. Sleep was clearly not interested in cooperating.
Eventually, Rin got out of bed and went to the window. The fortress was quiet. Most of the lights were gone.
Only a few remained in the distant corridors. Then Rin noticed something.
A light. Far beyond the fortress walls. Deep inside the forest.
A faint golden glow. Rin narrowed his eyes.
"...That wasn't there before."
He watched it for several seconds. The light disappeared.
Rin frowned. He had a terrible feeling about this. Which usually meant he was going to investigate.
He sighed.
"I really need better hobbies."
