Chapter 23 - 23

My Sister Never Said She Was a Creepy Tale

Gu Nanqiu and Yue Yiyue were people of action. After the break following the main lesson, they headed straight for Zhang Yang's classroom. There weren't many people in the classroom; many seats were already empty. It was at this moment that Yue Yiyue truly felt the reality of the statement that half the people in the school were dead. So many people had died without anyone knowing.

Zhang Yang, sitting brazenly in the center, had been waiting for a long time. She knew Yue Yiyue would definitely come looking for her today. But from the moment the two entered the room, her gaze never once fell on Yue Yiyue. Instead, it was fixed on Gu Nanqiu.

She looked at Gu Nanqiu with confusion: "Yue Yiyue, sometimes I really don't understand." "What right do you have to have Nanqiu stand by your side?"

Her cleansing process was almost complete. Soon, she would be able to fulfill the requirements of the script-killing game, keep Gu Nanqiu here, and slowly get her used to her and accept her. But Yue Yiyue's existence… ruined her plan!!! Starting from the moment she found Wang Xiaoyan. And that Fan Ning. She deserves to die, die, die. If Fan Ning hadn't been there that night, Yue Yiyue would have been long dead.

Gu Nanqiu looked at Zhang Yang, attempting to understand Zhang Yang's way of thinking. But she truly couldn't grasp it.

"Zhang Yang, tell us how to get back," Gu Nanqiu took a step forward: "We've all passed our exams. A new life is about to begin."

Hearing this, Zhang Yang smiled and shook her head, her expression sorrowful: "No, there will be no new life." Her life had stopped the moment her scores came out. And it had completely vanished the instant that large vehicle crashed into her. She looked at Gu Nanqiu standing by the door. Although they were in the same place, Gu Nanqiu felt so distant from her.

Pure white wings unfurled, instantly stained with the red of rust. Layer upon layer. Like restraints, like shackles.

"Alright."

Zhang Yang tilted her head, a hint of malice in her expression. She looked at the bothersome person and gave an evil smile.

"Nanqiu, I love you so much, of course I can listen to you and let you leave." After a subtle pause, the dense malice in Zhang Yang's eyes almost materialized, wrapping around Yue Yiyue, relentless and murderous.

A strong gust of wind blew through, and a paper figure suddenly appeared behind Yue Yiyue. The paper figure held a thick hemp rope. The rough bristles of the rope scraped across her neck, and Yue Yiyue was firmly lassoed. Having done all this, the paper figure immediately leaped out the window. Yue Yiyue was thus dragged across the floor, rapidly slamming into the wall. If she hadn't reacted quickly and grabbed the window ledge, she would definitely have been pulled down in that instant.

Everything happened extremely fast. Gu Nanqiu, realizing what was happening, immediately grabbed the rope pulling downwards. Seeing Yue Yiyue's face already red from being choked, she swiftly cut the rope with a small knife.

"Zhang Yang, stop being so deluded." Gu Nanqiu was startled by the sudden danger, almost cutting her own hand. She supported the gasping Yue Yiyue: "We will all leave. You come with us too. We can discuss the rest once we're out."

Zhang Yang looked at Gu Nanqiu, her expression inscrutable. After a long moment, she gave a self-mocking laugh: "Nanqiu, I'm already dead. I died on the way here." As soon as she finished speaking, many cracks, mixed with bruises, appeared on Zhang Yang's body.

She watched Gu Nanqiu quietly, not wanting to miss any detail on her face. Disgust? Revulsion? But none of Zhang Yang's predicted reactions appeared. Gu Nanqiu just looked at her calmly, her not-so-large pupils reflecting only Zhang Yang herself.

Zhang Yang subconsciously took a step forward. Yue Yiyue, clutching her neck, coughed weakly a few times. She wavered, trying to shield Gu Nanqiu behind her. But Gu Nanqiu pressed her hand down.

"Yiyue, I can handle this," Gu Nanqiu looked at Yue Yiyue resolutely: "Wait for me here, okay?"

Yue Yiyue hesitated for a moment. She let her strength give way and sank back onto the floor, watching Gu Nanqiu walk toward Zhang Yang step by step. A strange sense of bitterness welled up inside her at that moment. It was like a newly bought soda bottle being violently shaken.

This unusual feeling peaked when Gu Nanqiu's hand rested on Zhang Yang's shoulder. The violently shaken soda was knocked over by a passerby, spilled everywhere, bubbling and fizzing. Yue Yiyue lowered her head, her bangs covering the loneliness in her eyes. Her mind was filled with the moment she first met Gu Nanqiu. That single glance had quickly taken root in her heart. After that, she had deliberately allowed herself to constantly blur the boundary between the two of them… The best friend…

Yue Yiyue waited quietly, listening to the two people not far away talking about something. She didn't know what method Zhang Yang used. They were clearly right there, yet Yue Yiyue couldn't hear their conversation. It was as if she was deliberately excluded. This was the first time she had felt this way since being here—it was very strange.

She stayed put, waiting silently. She inexplicably recalled an instance while she was doing delivery work, where she occasionally saw a little dog waiting for its owner somewhere. Is that what the little dog feels? Perhaps it's happier. Because the little dog knows for sure its owner will return. But she…

Her hand, resting on the floor, clenched and unclenched. She was prepared to stay here and let Nanqiu leave. She didn't belong to this world anyway. If she wasted away here, she might go back someday. Nanqiu couldn't stay. Nanqiu had to go to a wider world. Yue Yiyue sat there quietly, waiting. Her neck no longer hurt as much, but now another spot felt sore and swollen.

Yue Yiyue continuously reviewed her actions during this time. The moral return she had intentionally ignored. She slumped her head down, I said I would protect her. But what have I actually done? She sighed softly. It made sense that Zhang Yang wanted her dead. She just wanted to be Gu Nanqiu's best friend. Making friends was a very difficult thing. At least for her.

Footsteps sounded. Gu Nanqiu walked back, stood in front of Yue Yiyue, and helped her up.

"Yiyue, why don't you go back first? Zhang Yang and I are going somewhere." Gu Nanqiu spoke calmly, as if the dangerous incident just now hadn't happened.

Yue Yiyue opened her mouth, seeing the smug Zhang Yang behind Gu Nanqiu.

"You'll be safe, right?" The words caught in her throat. In the end, Yue Yiyue only hooked her finger onto Gu Nanqiu's sleeve, asking softly.

"Yes, I will be back. Go deal with your injury first, okay?" Gu Nanqiu took Yue Yiyue's hand and led her to the classroom doorway. Her cool hand gently pressed the extraordinarily conspicuous wound: "Trust me, all this will be over soon."
