Chapter 4 - Lucky Rocky

Lo, there I was! Walking on a fine spring day. Behold, a rock of unusual quality. The size, a mere pebble grasped firmly in my palm. Its nature, mysterious and unforeseen.

The rock told me a most wondrous and veritable tale. It caught my glimmer with its talkative voice. It called out to me, and I listened. The rock had no particular name. It was called myriad things in the past by others, but it never really gave itself a name.

The friendly pebble seized this moment to tell me all about its fine and esteemed history. In ages past, in the primordial era, it was a towering mountain. Indeed, it was the Mountain of Timekeeping. In the vast cosmos, it lied at the heart, acting as a hearthstone. Above it lied the void precipice where water dripped from it drop by drop.

A thousand years would equal one tiny droplet falling on the top of the mountain, and as the eons passed, the mountain was ground down eventually by the incessant trickle. From a mountain to a humble hill, then to a boulder, and so on. And now, but a mere pebble.

It is awfully annoyed by the cold dew that splashes occasionally every once in a while over its gleaming head. But what can you do? That's the Timekeeping duty it has set out to do. When the Mountain has become Dust, can we say that an instant in infinity has gone by.

Yet never forget! It may be a pebble now, forsooth in the ye olden days it was once a mighty mountain! Witness the heavenly tower reaching into the endless expanse up high as you marvel skyward towards this tiny giant! Superimposed you face the stone and the summit!
