Chapter 1 - The First Claim

The world ended quietly.

No explosions.

No warning.

No gods descending from the sky.

Just a message.

[SYSTEM INITIALIZING...]

Grey didn't even realize when everything stopped.

One second—he was walking down a broken overpass, earbuds in, city noise humming faintly in the distance.

The next—

Silence.

Absolute silence.

No wind.

No distant traffic.

No human presence.

Even the air felt… paused.

Grey slowly removed one earbud.

"…What?"

His voice echoed too clearly.

That was wrong.

Cities don't echo like that.

Then—

The sky cracked.

Not metaphorically.

A thin, jagged line stretched across the clouds, glowing faintly like fractured glass.

Grey's pupils shrank.

"What the hell is—"

[GLOBAL EVENT: SOVEREIGN INITIATION]

[All humans have been designated as "Claimants"]

[Survive. Expand. Dominate.]

Before he could process it—

A sound.

A low, wet dragging noise.

Behind him.

Grey turned slowly.

At first, he thought it was a dog.

Then it stood up.

Too tall.

Too wrong.

Its limbs were elongated, joints bending in unnatural directions. Skin stretched tight over bone, twitching as if something inside it was moving independently.

Its eyes—

Empty.

Yet locked onto him.

[TARGET DETECTED]

[Hostile Entity: Feral Husk Lv.1]

Grey stumbled back.

"…No. No, this isn't real."

The thing tilted its head.

Then lunged.

Grey reacted purely on instinct.

He grabbed a broken metal rod from the ground and swung wildly.

CLANG—CRACK!

The impact sent vibrations up his arms.

The creature screeched—high-pitched, distorted—

But it didn't stop.

It slammed into him.

They both hit the ground hard.

Grey's vision blurred.

The creature's jaw opened wider than possible—

Rows of jagged teeth inches from his face.

"GET OFF!"

He drove the rod upward—

THUNK!

Straight through its throat.

Silence.

The body twitched.

Then went limp.

A thick, black fluid pooled beneath it.

Grey lay there, chest heaving, staring at the corpse.

"…I killed it…"

Then—

Something impossible happened.

The corpse began to dissolve.

Not rot.

Not burn.

It… disassembled.

Like particles being erased.

A faint glow remained.

Floating.

Waiting.

[CLAIM AVAILABLE]

Grey blinked.

"…What?"

The glowing fragment pulsed gently.

As if responding to him.

He hesitated.

Then slowly reached out.

The moment his fingers touched it—

[INITIATING FIRST CLAIM...]

Pain.

Sharp. Immediate. Absolute.

Grey screamed as something surged through his veins—

Not heat.

Not electricity.

Something deeper.

Like his body was being rewritten.

Images flashed in his mind—

Hunting.

Blood.

Instinct.

Survival.

Then—

Silence.

Grey collapsed onto his knees.

Sweat dripped from his chin.

His hands trembled.

"…What… did I just…"

He slowly stood.

Something felt different.

Sharper.

His senses—

Clearer.

A faint sound echoed from far away.

Footsteps.

Before, he wouldn't have noticed.

Now—

He could pinpoint the direction instantly.

Grey's eyes widened.

"…No way."

[CLAIM SUCCESSFUL]

[Trait Acquired: Basic Predator Instinct]

The world had changed.

And so had he.

Far in the distance—

More creatures began to move.

More messages flickered across the sky.

More people screamed.

Grey clenched his fist.

His heartbeat slowed.

His breathing steadied.

Fear was still there—

But something else had replaced it.

Focus.

"…Alright."

He picked up the blood-stained rod.

Turned toward the ruined city ahead.

"Let's see how far this goes."
