Chapter 0: Auxiliary Volume

This chapter contains information that is not necessary for reading the fanfic but can help with understanding it, especially if you, like me, also appreciate this type of fiction from a mechanical standpoint.

There are a lot of grey areas in Overlord when it comes to the levels of characters, or how strong level-wise this or that adventurer ranking is, and some other stuff.

This chapter exists to inform you, readers, of how these things will be viewed in this fanfiction, so we're all on the same page, and you don't feel confused by some takes.

Tiers of magic by level

This is the official classification, and will be the basis for many of the other understandings.

When you obtain levels in a class, there's a list of spells you can learn, and this table shows the level prerequisites to learn a spell of a certain tier.

This usually also means that the levels must be in magic caster classes, but there is a gray area, especially with racial classes.

The thing to take is, there are characters with higher levels that can't cast a certain tier of spell because not all their levels are in caster classes, but you won't see someone casting a spell of a tier superior to what their levels allow, except if they have a talent.

Evileye is theorized to be around level 50, but can only cast up to 5th-tier magic because she has many levels in True Vampire and Vampire Princess, which are not magic classes. Demiurge does not have a magic caster build, but due to some traits in his racial classes, he can cast 2 10th-tier spells. He is level 100, so this is allowed.

As a rule, a person can learn up to 3 spells per level in magic classes, and 1 Super-tier spell for each level after 70.

A normal level 100 magic caster in Yggdrasil will know 300 spells and 30 Super-tier spells. Ainz learned more(718) due to his skill Dark Wisdom.

In the New world most magic casters didn't learn their maximum number of spells, and people with the Genius tag can learn a few more spells per level.

For this fanfic, levels in different systems of magic(Arcane/Divine/Spiritual/ Alternative) will be counted separately.

If Ainz were to get one level in a divine caster class, he wouldn't suddenly be able to learn a 10th-tier divine class spell.

Fluder Paradyne is someone with classes in 3 different magic systems. He is a 6th-tier arcane magic caster 36+, but should have just a few levels in the other classes, seemingly only enough to use rituals involving the 3 systems.

Common classes are profession classes that didn't exist in Yggdrasil, but exist in the New World. They are things like Princess, King, Farmer, and Slave. These classes don't make the user stronger, but only register their acquired proficiency in a certain field.

Before training and obtaining one level in fighter, Zanac was a level 7 being with only common classes, but he would probably lose in a fight against a level 1 fighter.

These common classes still apply to damage calculations.

In Yggdrasil, there was a compensation for damage based on your level relative to your enemy. If your level is higher than your opponent you take less damage and inflict more, even if your stats are the same.

A brief explanation for some decisions:

Magic casters are recognized to be in the realm of heroes when they can cast 5th-tier spells, so I aligned it with the spell tier, even if level 30 would look better.

I put adamantite in this level range to align it with the 4th tier of spells, giving a clear division with the other adventurer ranks, and since it's the last rank for adventurers, I thought it would be ok to have a large gap for the beginning and the end, much like the S-rank in Solo Leveling. The levels are like this for those that are considered adamantite class but not in the realm of heroes, since Lakyus, Evileye, and Momon are recognized as being in other categories, even if they're also adamantite class adventurers.

Arche, from the worker group Foresight, can use 3rd-tier spells, and since the group is comparable to a Mythril rank party, and they talked about how it would be difficult to replace her with a 2nd-tier Wizard, it seems like 3rd-tier is a hallmark for Mythril rank, so aligned this rank with the start of 3rd-tier spells.

Sword of Darkness is a Silver rank party, and Ninya could use 2nd-tier spells, so I also aligned it with the tier.

Outliers are the strongest thing a human can aspire to be, and the 6th tier is recognized as the limit of what a human can achieve, so I aligned the start and the end of human outliers with the 6th tier of magic.

Non-human outliers are free to be stronger, like Evileye, the members of the Corpus of Abyss, and the dragons.

For characters with no information or limited information about their races and builds, I'll freely decide what applies in this fanfic. Maruyama's tweets won't be considered guaranteed canon.

Tiers of undead Ainz can create by level

Low Tier(20/day): Level 1-30

Elder Lich: Level 22

Middle Tier(12/day): Level 31-59

Death Knight, Death Warrior, Death Wizard, Death Assassin, Death Priest, and Death Archer: Level 35.Soul Eater: Level 40

High Tier(4/day): Level 60-90

He can only create permanent undead of up to level 40 with human bodies.

He can consume 2 uses of [Create High-Tier undead] to create a level 90 undead, passing the usual level 70 cap.
