Those two finally left!
Everyone relaxed all of a sudden.
Madam Ru straightened, and a sigh of relief escaped her thin lips. I rolled my shoulders back, feeling the tension slowly drain from them. At least the Lord's foul mood was directed towards her.
Madam Ru took a moment to survey the remaining servants lingering behind me. "You all performed admirably today. Good work."
"Yes, ma'am," they all chorused back.
The new one called Becca turned to me with that eager, bright-eyed smile she seemed to pull out at every opportunity. It was exhausting just to look at. She didn't even seem to mind that I had barely spoken two words to her since we'd been assigned together. If anything, she took my silence as a challenge, filling every quiet moment with chatter I didn't ask for and didn't want.
She was irritating.
This one was older than I was, yet she was prancing around like a young vampling eager to make friends. Such undignified behaviour from a commoner vamp.
