Mother?
This creature was not my mother. My mother had been absent my entire life, and she was right in front of me, not offering any sort of explanation for why she had abandoned us. My father had raised me alone, had worked himself to the bone to keep us fed until his body gave out. He had loved me with everything he had until the sickness took him.
And now I was supposed to believe this… person cared about my well-being?
"You left," I gritted out.
And she didn't even answer my question.
"Your father did not tell you?"
I was confused, then I thought against answering. She could be trying to pull information from me, and if I told her father didn't want to talk about her, she would just spin some tale I had no way of confirming.
