A cold weight settled in my chest as I realised just how deep a hole I had dug.

That girl is going to try and ruin me.

"As I was saying," Effer pressed, a slight frown creasing the slight wrinkles in her face. "That vendetta might affect a lot of things, and she is young. A child, amongst other things, would give her an emotional investment, along with keeping her occupied.
"I do not think it is a wise plan to use a child as a form of control against her. It will backfire. An influence, however, would be a better fit. I do not know how much this transformation has changed her, but on a deeper level, I think she is still the same.
"And if the worst comes to it, the child would be a reliable weapon should Hiln become a cause for concern." A strange demeanour came over Effer and she frowned, her eyes lowering. "I am just now starting to see how dangerous she could be."
