Chapter 1 - Chapter One: The Beginning

Lilian stood in the kitchen preparing breakfast, while Jungkook was putting on his uniform.

Jungkook looked at his reflection in the mirror—his formal uniform, his styled hair, and his sharp features that reflected years of struggle and experience. His eyes drifted to the bag that held his clothes and personal belongings, packed for a long journey he didn't know when he would return from. He glanced around his room, taking in every detail.

He let out a heavy sigh, pulled his bag behind him, and went downstairs, where the smell of pancakes and butter—prepared by his wife—filled the air. Oh God, how much he would miss her… he would miss her cooking, her voice, her laughter, her liveliness. He would miss everything about her. After all, she was the love of his life, his wife who gave his life warmth and meaning. That woman, with her enchanting presence, had overcome years of military discipline and melted his heart in seconds.

Lilian was putting the final touches on breakfast. She was smiling, but behind that smile was so much pain and sadness. How would she stay alone without her support and protector—her beloved husband? Still, she tried not to show anything.

Lilian: Jungkook, come on, my love, breakfast is ready.

Jungkook entered the kitchen, sat down, and looked at her with a gaze that hid so much.

Jungkook: You know… I'll truly miss the smell of your delicious food. I'll try to come back quickly, to be embraced again by the warmth of our home… and by you.

Lilian sat down, her eyes softening with emotion at his words.

Lilian: And you'll always find me here, waiting for you with all my heart.

They began eating quietly, exchanging gentle glances, surrounded by the warmth of the moment and their love.

After breakfast, Jungkook stood up slowly—he wanted this moment to last longer. He looked at her, as if memorizing her features, even though they were already engraved in his memory.

He stepped closer and pulled her into a tight embrace, as if he wanted to hide her within his ribs. He inhaled the scent of her perfume, her hair. When he pulled away, he gently touched her cheek, so tenderly it matched the softness of her skin, and gazed into her brown eyes—the color of coffee and hazelnuts.

Jungkook: My everything… take care of yourself. Eat well, don't neglect your health. And I… I'll come back to you soon. I'll try. And when life feels heavy, you'll find me here… in your heart. You'll find me in every corner of this house. I don't want sadness to break your gentle heart. Don't worry, I'll come back… okay? Promise me you'll be alright, Lilian.

Lilian's eyes filled with tears. The moment weighed heavily on both of them—parting from a loved one is painful and cruel.

Lilian: Jungkook, please don't make this harder than it already is… I promise, I promise, Jungkook. But please, don't be late. It's really hard for me… take care of yourself, and come back to me safe… please.

Jungkook nodded, trying not to let her cry—her tears were harder for him than anything else in this world.

He gave her a soft smile, picked up his bag, and adjusted his uniform calmly.

Jungkook: See you soon, my love. Goodbye.

Jungkook left the house, leaving Lilian behind, alone. He went to answer the call of his homeland.

Lilian sat on the couch, staring at the empty house. How would she stay like this for days—or even months—without Jungkook? The house felt truly lifeless without him.

Days passed slowly for Lilian, slower than a turtle's pace. She kept her promise to Jungkook. She even started planting flowers in the garden around the house, trying to do anything to make time pass.

Then suddenly… a message arrived from the unit where Jungkook was stationed.
